In the fourth encounter of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots locked horns with the Trinbago Knight Riders at Warner Park in Basseterre in St Kitts. The home captain, Jason Holder, won the toss and decided to bowl first on a flat surface. 

The Patriots fielded the same eleven for the fixture. It was the opening game of the season for the Knight Riders, who are under the leadership of Nicholas Pooran for the season. Mohammed Amir and Akeal Hosein returned from The Hundred 2025, having benefited from the services of Sunil Narine and Colin Munro at the top.

Colin Munro’s 120 charge Trinbago Knight Riders to 231/5

It was an incredible opening partnership of 114 runs in nine overs for the Trinbago side. Alex Hales smashed 47 runs in 27 balls at a strike rate of 174.07, with the help of four boundaries and three sixes. However, Colin Munro continued to go with the same rhythm and ended with 120 runs in 57 balls with the help of 14 boundaries and three sixes at a strike rate of 210.

Keacy Carty got 16 runs in eight balls while Kieron Pollard, the former captain, earned 19 runs in 13 balls. This helped them to post 231/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Holder and Waqar Salamkheli picked up two wickets each in their four overs, respectively.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots' struggling middle order face 12-run defeat 

The Patriots got a decent start inside the power play. Andre Fletcher, who smacked 41 runs in 26 balls at a strike rate of nearly 150, put up an opening partnership of 80 runs with Kyle Myers, who ended with 32 runs in 22 balls at a strike rate of 145.45, scoring five boundaries and one six.

Rilee Rossouw clubbed 38 runs in 24 balls at a strike rate of around 160 with four sixes and one four. On the other hand, Captain Holder scored 44 runs in 22 runs. But none of these contributions was enough to earn the victory. They fell short by 12 runs despite getting 30 runs in the last over.

Just before the beginning of the CPL 2025, the record four-time CPL champions Trinbago Knight Riders announced their new captain. Nicholas Pooran has replaced Kieron Pollard for the captaincy role of the side. 

Pooran now become the third Trinbago Knight Riders captain, after Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard led the team in 70 and 67 games, respectively. The former West Indies white-ball captain Pooran previously experienced CPL captaincy during the 2021 edition for Guyana Amazon Warriors in 11 games, where his team recorded five wins and five losses.

Last season, Trinbago Knight Riders were eliminated from the Eliminator round, which they qualified for after finishing the third position in the points table. While the CPL 2025 will start on August 14, the Trinbago Knight Riders will start their tournament journey on August 17 with the match against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots.

The seventh leading run-scorer in CPL history, Pooran has scored 1112 runs in 50 matches for Trinbago Knight Riders, as he is the fourth most run-scorer for the franchise. 

Trinbago Knight Riders have appointed West Indies legend Dwayne Bravo as their new head coach for the CPL 2025 season. Team manager Colin Borde confirmed the news, which is a big change in the coaching configuration for the four-time champions. Bravo will take over from former West Indies coach Phil Simmons, who had joined the franchise in 2023.

This new role adds to Bravo’s growing coaching portfolio, as he is already the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders (ADKR) head coach in the ILT20 and the Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR) head coach in Major League Cricket. Being promoted to TKR head coach is viewed as a tactical initiative to introduce continuity across Knight Riders' global operations, given Bravo’s deep involvement with the brand.

One of the most successful CPL players, Bravo offers a lifetime of experience, leadership, and a winning mindset to the job. The appointment is likely to galvanize the TKR setup, particularly with a few young players on the team eager to make a statement in the next season.

TKR Announce Squad for CPL 2025

The Trinbago Knight Riders have officially announced their team for the next 2025 Caribbean Premier League season. The franchise has retained their seasoned core with T20 veterans such as Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Nicholas Pooran, and Akeal Hosein. In overseas roles, TKR has added names like Alex Hales, Mohammad Amir, Colin Munro, Usman Tariq, and Ali Khan to add strength and depth to the team.

The CPL 2025 draft was conducted on June 18, in which all six franchises completed their rosters. The player draft for the 2025 edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL)  was held on June 18, with all six franchises finalizing their squads ahead of the tournament’s much-anticipated return. The 2025 CPL is expected to be held between August 14th and September 21st and is expected to be six weeks of explosive T20 action across the Caribbean.

All six participating teams—Antigua & Barbuda Falcons, Barbados Royals, Guyana Amazon Warriors, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, Saint Lucia Kings, and Trinbago Knight Riders—actively participated in the draft process. Several key trades had taken place ahead of the event, including a headline move that saw Jason Holder and Alick Athanaze join the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots from the Barbados Royals in exchange for Sherfane Rutherford.

A key change from this year’s draft was the inclusion of the West Indies Breakout League, a developmental initiative by Cricket West Indies. The final three rounds of the draft were intended for this league, as CPL teams must now start one of these players in every match in an attempt to solidify the region's development pathways.

The revelation came during the CPL draft that took place on June 18, providing fans with a first-hand glimpse at the squads of all six teams.

Knight Riders have held on to T20 veterans like Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Nicholas Pooran, and Akeal Hosein to ensure leadership and experience do not get affected. Their foreign roster is comprised of the likes of Alex Hales, Mohammad Amir, Colin Munro, Usman Tariq, and Ali Khan, which provides them with strength and depth in all departments. The 2025 CPL tournament will start on 14 August and end with the final on 21 September, covering the length and breadth of the Caribbean and ending in Guyana.

This year's draft saw a special rule: the last three rounds were for West Indies Breakout League players. Every team has to have at least one such young player in every game, promoting youth development in the league.
