India began their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 tournament campaign on a winning note as they beat the United States of America by 29 runs in Match 3 of the tournament, played on February 7, Tuesday, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. While batting first, India could only manage to score 161/9 in 20 overs, losing initial wickets, but a calm and confident knock by Captain Suryakumar Yadav, who remained unbeaten on 84 runs off 49 balls, helped India reach a fighting total.

The USA bowlers gave a good account of themselves, with Shadley van Schalkwyk bowling an excellent spell, taking four wickets for 25 runs. The breakthroughs he took at key intervals kept India under pressure, thereby restricting them from big scores.

In reply, the USA fought well and could score 132/8 in their 20 overs. Sanjay Krishnamurthi and Shubham Ranjane scored the highest, making 37 runs each, but the chase was not managed due to frequent wickets. Mohammed Siraj spearheaded the Indian bowling attack, taking 3/29. The rest of the bowlers also bowled well. Suryakumar Yadav was the standout player in that game with his match-winning contribution, while van Schalkwyk was also impressive for the losing team.

Only a few teams remain to announce their squads for the 20-team ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, and the United States are among them. While the tournament is less than two weeks away from beginning, the United States have suffered a major blow, as a star player has been provisionally suspended under the ICC anti-corruption code.

On Wednesday (January 28), the International Cricket Council (ICC) released a statement about the 31-year-old USA star cricketer Aaron Jones' provisional suspension due to breaching five anti-corruption codes of the Cricket West Indies (CWI) and the ICC.

USA cricketer Aaron Jones breached five anti-corruption codes

The anti-corruption charges on Aaron Jones mostly related to the Bim10 tournament in 2023-24. While he breached three CWI anti-corruption codes, he also breached two ICC anti-corruption codes, which were related to international matches.

Aaron Jones' five counts of anti-corruption charges are as follows:

 • Article 2.1.1 of the CWI Code – Fixing, contriving to fix or otherwise influencing improperly, or being a party to an agreement or effort to fix or contrive in any way or otherwise influence improperly, the result, progress, conduct or other aspect of matches in the Bim10 tournament in 2023/24 (or attempting to do so).
 • Article 2.4.2 of the CWI Code – Failing to disclose to Cricket West Indies details of any approaches or invitations to engage in conduct that would amount to a breach of the CWI Code.
 • Article 2.4.4 of the CWI Code – Failing or refusing to cooperate with a reasonable investigation carried out by the Designated Anti-Corruption Official (or his/her designee) in relation to possible offences under the CWI Code.
 • Article 2.4.4 of the ICC Code – Failing to disclose to the ICC ACU full deof any approaches or invitations received to engage in Corrupt Conduct under the ICC Code.
 • Article 2.4.7 of the ICC Code – Obstructing the ACU’s investigation into possible Corrupt Conduct by concealing and/or tampering with information that may have been relevant to the investigation, or which may have constituted evidence or led to the discovery of evidence of Corrupt Conduct.

On Jones suspension, the ICC stated, "Jones has been provisionally suspended from all cricket with immediate effect and has 14 days from 28 January 2026 to respond to the charges.”

Aaron Jones is a star name for USA

Aaron Jones has played 52 ODIs and 48 T20Is, where the right-handed batter has scored 1664 ODI runs (average 33.95 and strike rate 71.44) and 770 T20I runs (average 24.06 and strike rate 114.58). He is the second-leading ODI scorer and third-leading T20I scorer for the USA. While he scored one century and 11 half-centuries in his ODI career, also recorded two half-centuries in his T20I career.

While the USA made their World Cup debut in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 as the co-hosts, the USA advanced to the Super Eight stage, which guided them to directly qualify for the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, which India and Sri Lanka will jointly host between February 7 and March 8. In that tournament, Aaron Jones was the second most run-scorer for his team with 162 runs in six innings, including the match-winning 94 not out off 40 balls in the tournament opener against Canada.

<![CDATA[USA fast bowler's India visa application denied ahead of T20 World Cup 2026]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/usa-fast-bowler-s-india-visa-application-denied-ahead-of-t20-world-cup-2026/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/usa-fast-bowler-s-india-visa-application-denied-ahead-of-t20-world-cup-2026/ Tue, 13 Jan 2026 17:36:36 GMT

USA fast bowler Ali Khan has revealed that his Indian visa application has been denied, less than a month before the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The development has increased concern within the USA camp as the tournament closes.

Khan publicly shared the update and responded in a light manner, commenting, “India visa denied but KFC for the win,” in a calm mood despite the situation. However, the issue itself remains serious for the team as preparations continue.

As of now, Ali Khan’s case is the only confirmed one, but it has added uncertainty around the squad. USA Cricket and the International Cricket Council (ICC) have not yet issued any official statement on the matter.

More USA Players May Face Visa Problems

USA are placed in Group A and are scheduled to face hosts India at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on February 7. They will also play the Netherlands and Namibia in Chennai during the group stage. If the visa issue is not resolved soon, the team could be forced into late squad changes. Several reports and social media discussions suggest that other USA players, including wicketkeeper-batter Shayan Jahangir and bowlers Ehsan Adil and Mohammad Mohsin, may be facing similar visa hurdles. However, no formal confirmation has been given so far.

Visa complications have been a concern for associate teams ahead of India-hosted matches, especially for players with Pakistani origin or documentation links due to extra verification processes. Along with other travel-related issues, this has added to off-field challenges before the World Cup.

From a cricketing point of view, missing a frontline fast bowler like Ali Khan so close to the tournament would be a big setback. USA’s recent progress has been built around disciplined bowling and a settled core, and any late disruption to the pace attack could affect match plans and their chances of advancing in the competition.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has stepped in to ensure that United States cricketers are not affected by the ongoing administrative crisis at USA Cricket. The ICC confirmed it is working closely with the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee to protect player welfare and ensure uninterrupted preparation for upcoming international commitments.

The ICC suspended USA Cricket in September for serious breaches of membership criteria. The situation deteriorated further when the governing body filed for bankruptcy after terminating its long-term commercial partnership with American Cricket Enterprises. As a result, USA Cricket has been unable to operate normally, prompting the ICC to take responsibility for safeguarding the national setup.

The ICC has committed to supporting the USA High Performance Programme throughout the suspension period, including providing financial assistance and operational oversight. The global body has indicated it is prepared to directly manage the programme to ensure contracted players continue to receive payments and structured support. Despite the suspension, U.S. national teams have retained their right to compete in ICC events and will continue preparations for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Why the ICC’s Intervention Was Necessary

“[The ICC] is ready to provide funding for, and, if need be, run all aspects of the USA High Performance Programme during USAC's suspension, including honouring USA Cricket's obligations to pay the players selected and contracted to play for the USA teams,” the global body said in a statement.

The intervention comes at a crucial time, with USA teams scheduled to feature in multiple global events. These include the Under-19 World Cup in Zimbabwe from January, the Men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka in February and March, and cricket’s return to the Olympic Games at Los Angeles 2028. The ICC has made it clear it will not allow governance issues to compromise the USA’s participation or competitiveness at international tournaments.

USA Cricket, which has filed for bankruptcy, had earlier rejected the ICC’s offer to provide funding through a loan that required the payment of player and staff salaries. The U.S. men’s team is also scheduled to take part in next year’s T20 World Cup, starting in February.

ICC takes major step with USA cricket]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/usa-to-miss-t20-world-cup-2026-icc-takes-major-step-with-usa-cricket/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/usa-to-miss-t20-world-cup-2026-icc-takes-major-step-with-usa-cricket/ Tue, 23 Sep 2025 23:45:52 GMT

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided to suspend the United States of America Cricket (USAC) in the process of hitting the reset button as they look to overhaul the leadership and governance structure of the sport. The decision, which won’t impact their participation in the T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka, has been taken by the ICC board in a virtual meeting.

The actual reasons for the suspension, before the T20 World Cup, are not clear, but it has come just over two months after the ICC granted the association three months to hold the free and fair elections and carry out the governance reforms. That was the time when the ICC reiterated that the association would remainon noticeas it has been the case since July 2024.

USA chairman, Venu Pisike, revealed that there had beenno communicationfrom the ICC on the suspension, which doesn’t have an immediate effect on the game, which is a part of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics Games. As the hosts, the USA are expected to be one of the six teams to contest for medals in both men’s and women’s categories.

ICC decides to suspend USA cricket

The roadmap is comprised of six steps and was drawn by the ICC’s Normalization Committee, which is headed by the ICC chairman, Jay Shah. Before that, the committee met with the top of the association’s chairman and the CEO twice in April, virtually and in person in June. Following that, the USCA would step down from the fresh elections and would apply for the NGB status.

The ICC revealed that a comprehensive review of the USA cricket will be undertaken in close consultation. It’s, however, not clear who would oversee the operations of the game in the country at the moment.

ACE (American Cricket Enterprise) opted to legally challenge the termination. The former New Zealand all-rounder, Corey Anderson, who moved to the USA and became eligible to play in 2022, is now the operations director of the Association. He reckoned that the differences between the USAC and ACE had put the players in an uncertain state for their future.

The USA amazed audiences on Tuesday by defending only 122 runs against Oman in an ODI, thus setting a new low for the smallest number of runs to be defended in a full-length men's ODI. They won by 57 runs in a match that was completely dominated by the spin-bowling.

Nosthush Kenjige stole the show with the ball, taking 5 wickets for just 11 runs in 7.3 overs, thus blowing Oman away. Oman cracked under the pressure and got dismissed for a measly total of just 65 runs which is their lowest total in the history of men’s international cricket.

Milind Kumar was also instrumental in the match with his off-spin, he picked up 2 wickets for 17 runs, one of which was the key dismissal of Oman’s captain, Jatinder Singh, who managed only 7 runs. Yasir Mohammed added 2 wickets for 10 runs, while Harmeet Singh chipped in with 1 for 25. In the end, Kenjige finished the game in style by taking the wicket of No. 11 Siddharth Bukkapatnam, who was bowled for a duck and thereby, the USA made history by winning the match.

The pitch conditions massively tilted the advantage in favor of spinners, and not a single over of pace was bowled for the entire duration of the match. Oman went with a five-spinner attack, but the USA responded with much restraint as their own slow bowlers—Milind Kumar, Harmeet Singh, Yasir Mohammed, and Kenjige.

Oman had aimed to replicate their recent success with spin against Namibia, and their bowlers started strong, reducing the USA to 5 wickets down within 13 overs. Captain Monank Patel was dismissed for a duck, while Aaron Jones and Sanjay Krishnamurthi each scored 16 runs.

But Milind Kumar was strong in a gritty, unbeaten 47 that saw six boundaries hit and guaranteed the USA breach the 100-run barrier. It was sufficient because Oman's batting order capitulated under a never-ending onslaught of spin bowling.

Ultimately, it was a record victory for the USA that confirmed even the lowest scores could be defended when using the proper tactics and techniques.

<![CDATA[Did you know about the 180 years old cricket rivalry between USA and Canada?]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/did-you-know-about-the-180-years-old-cricket-rivalry-between-usa-and-canada/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/did-you-know-about-the-180-years-old-cricket-rivalry-between-usa-and-canada/ Sat, 01 Jun 2024 21:40:23 GMT

Long before the iconic Ashes rivalry between Australia and England, the United States and Canada set the stage for international cricket; the first official international cricket match took place in 1844, a historic encounter that marked the beginning of cricket’s journey beyond the British Isles. As these two teams prepare to face each other once again in the T20 World Cup 2024 opener, it’s a fitting time to reflect on the rich history and enduring significance of this rivalry.

The First International Cricket Match

The inaugural international cricket match between the USA and Canada was held from September 24 to 26, 1844, at the St George’s Cricket Club in Manhattan, New York. This event, billed as “The United States of America versus the British Empire’s Canadian Province,” drew significant attention, with spectator numbers ranging from 5,000 to 20,000 and bets totalling an estimated $100,000 to $120,000—a staggering sum for the time. The prize money for the match was $1,000, which, adjusted for inflation, is equivalent to about $32,700 today.

The 1844 match was a low-scoring affair, but it was packed with excitement and drama. Canada emerged victorious by 23 runs.

USA and Canada in T20 World Cup 2024

In a historical twist, the same two teams that contested the first international cricket match will face each other in the T20 World Cup 2024 opener. The USA qualified for the tournament as co-hosts, while Canada earned its spot by winning the Americas Qualifier. This match, to be held in Dallas, marks the first T20 World Cup appearance for both sides, adding another chapter to their storied rivalry.

Grand Prairie Stadium: The Venue

The much-anticipated match will be held at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. With a seating capacity of 7,000, the venue has been prepared to welcome fans for this historic encounter. However, the buzz around the game has been muted, and there are concerns that the stadium may not be packed to capacity.

USA’s Recent Form and Prospects

The USA cricket team comes into the World Cup with a promising track record. Despite playing only seven T20Is since the 2022 T20 World Cup—all within the last two months—they have shown considerable pedigree. Their 4-0 series win over Canada and a 2-1 victory against Bangladesh at home highlight their potential to surprise stronger teams in the tournament.

Canada’s Journey to the World Cup

Canada’s road to the T20 World Cup 2024 was paved with hard-fought victories in the Americas Qualifier. The team, buoyed by key performances from its star players, looks to carry this momentum into the World Cup. While they face challenges, Canada’s blend of experienced campaigners and young talent offers hope for a competitive tournament.
