Match 45 of the IPL 2025 between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will be played on April 27, 2023, at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Below is a discussion about their head-to-head record, players to watch, and memorable matches to prepare for this IPL 2025 matchup.

Head-to-Head Record

MI and LSG have faced each other 7 times in the IPL since LSG's inception in 2022.

 • MI Wins: 1
 • LSG Wins: 6
 • No Result: 0
 • Win Percentage: LSG dominates with a win percentage of 85.71%.

LSG has had a stranglehold on the competition in recent history. This includes winning matches in both Lucknow and Wankhede. MI has beaten LSG only in the 2023 Eliminator, at Chepauk. Wankhede’s pitch undoubtedly will benefit MI’s aggressive batting lineup, while LSG has usually found a balanced strategy with their bowling lineup, which has matched MI’s batting lineup effectively. MI’s pacers generally like home conditions and playing under lights, while LSG has proven to be suitable in any location they’ve played in. Therefore, these two teams will beat each other again to put us all in an equally interesting contest.

All in all, this match represented yet another competitive win for MI and the development of an MI signature with strong death bowling—an essential element of the ongoing rivalry.

Weather & Pitch Report

The weather forecast indicates that the weather will be warm and humid in Mumbai on April 27, 2025, with temperatures ranging from 31 to 37 degrees Celsius and the humidity around 50-65% during the evening. The pitch at Wankhede Stadium is known to provide a batting-friendly surface, flat pitches, short boundaries, and a quick outfield to enable a high-scoring match. Throughout the match, the pitch may offer some assistance to pacers early on with the new ball, while spinners are likely to find some grip as the game wears into the later stages of the match. Dew will also play a major role in the second innings; exactly how much is left to see, but generally favoring the chase.

MI vs LSG: Match Preview

The Mumbai Indians, led by Hardik Pandya, will be hoping that their solid start at home at Wankhede can help them build some positive momentum. The Wankhede is a unique venue with passionate crowds and familiar conditions that can not only help the players but will also be a boost to the success of the franchise. MI boasts one of the best batting lineups, featuring Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Hardik Pandya. Rohit is possibly a Wankhede legend because he creates electric starts and provides experience to go along with it. Similarly, Tilak Varma can give MI the same combination of consistency and speed in their middle order. While young and promising players like Naman Dhir also surfaced in the batting lineup. MI also has a bowling unit that can create its own dominance with the return of Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah has proven for many years that he can dominate the death overs and stop any partnership that can help MI achieve their desired outcome. Supported by Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar, and spinners like Mitchell Santner, MI’s attack is well-rounded. After a shaky start to IPL 2025 with only one win in four matches, including a 12-run loss to LSG in Match 16, MI are under pressure to regain momentum.

The Lucknow Super Giants, who have Rishabh Pant as their captain, will feel confident going into their second meeting against the Mumbai Indians, as they won by 12 runs earlier this season on April 4, 2025, at Ekana Stadium. The top three batsmen for LSG are Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, and Nicholas Pooran. Pooran has had a tremendous season so far, On the other hand, Pant has had a slow start to the season, scoring only 17 runs prior to Match 16 in three matches. LSG’s bowling has produced good results, as it was once viewed like it was going to be a strength for the franchise since it was viewed as a weakness in the past. Shardul Thakur and Avesh Khan have pitched in along with many other bowlers, such as Akash Deep and economical Digvesh Singh Rathi, as well as Ravi Bishnoi, who is the only spinner in the franchise.

Rohit Sharma's tale is one of dreams fulfilled. As a boy, he would stand outside the Wankhede Stadium, hoping to catch a glimpse of his cricketing idols. Today, the same stadium will have a stand in his name, a moment that brings his journey full circle. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has announced that Level 3 of the Divecha Pavilion at Wankhede will be named after Rohit, one of India's greatest cricketers.

For Rohit, this is not only an honour, it's an emotional moment. "We were not permitted to go into Wankhede in my childhood days," he said. "Now, a stand is going to be constructed in my name, it will be a very emotional moment for me. I do not know how I will behave." He recalled how he and his pals would complete their U-14 or U-16 training at Azad Maidan and go over to Wankhede, just to watch the Mumbai Ranji side train. Entering was not easy, but those were the memories that stuck with him.

Rohit Sharma: A Legend Whose Records Speak Louder Than Words

Rohit's professional life has been nothing but incredible. He took India to two massive ICC victories, the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy. He has also led the Mumbai Indians to five IPL victories. His achievements as a captain and batsman have earned him one of the most honored names in global cricket.

He has the record for the most runs in a one-day international, 264 runs, and is the only player to have three double centuries in ODIs. Rohit has more than 11,000 ODI runs and over 4,000 in Tests. He's also India's top run-scorer in T20Is with 4,231 runs and four centuries. With Rohit, MCA will also dedicate stands to late India captain Ajit Wadekar and former BCCI president Sharad Pawar. It is a moment of pride for Mumbai cricket. Having his name on a stand at Wankhede will give a lot of encouragement to many young cricketers who, like Rohit once, have big dreams from outside the gate.

In match 38 of the IPL 2025, Mumbai Indians (MI) delivered a commanding performance to defeat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by nine wickets on April 20, 2025, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Chennai Super Kings Innings

CSK, batting first, fought their way to a reasonable score of 176/5. They were led by an unbeaten 53 from Ravindra Jadeja, who did not detract from CSK upon the end of his innings off 35 balls, along with some aggressive support from Shivam Dube (50 runs from 32 balls) and Ayush Mhatre, who gave momentum to CSK's innings with 32 runs from just 15 balls in the end. With this solid foundation, their innings could have turned out better had they been allowed to dominate a disciplined Mumbai bowling line-up. Jasprit Bumrah was the best for the Mumbai Indians (2/25 in 4 overs). Mitchell Santner was tidy enough to allow just 14 runs (1/14 in 3 overs), while Deepak Chahar was reasonable for just 32 in 4 overs (1 wicket).

Mumbai Indians Innings

MI chased down 177 in a timely manner, securing 177/1 in just 15.4 overs. They were led by the consummate performance of the captain, Rohit Sharma, whose innings finished with 76* (off 45 balls), and in high-impact fashion was supported well by Suryakumar Yadav (68* from 30 balls). Together they put together a match-winning partnership, after Ryan Rickelton, had provided a good start of 24 runs from 19 balls. Chennai's bowling enjoyed some success but was sold on the fact that they only took just one wicket—Ravindra Jadeja dismissing Rickelton. However, the rest of the bowlers, including Khaleel Ahmed (0/24 in 2) and Ravichandran Ashwin (0/25 in 4), struggled to contain the onslaught from the MI batters.

MI vs CSK: Post Match Reactions

Rohit Sharma (Player of the Match): Rohit Sharma, who led the run chase with a brilliant 76*, discussed the need for backing yourself through bad times. “Every time you doubt yourself, you apply pressure. I just kept practicing hard and focused on clarity,” he said. It was a touching moment, for Sharma reflected on hitting near a stand that is going to have his name on it and thought back to the fact he wasn’t allowed into the stadium as a kid.

Hardik Pandya (MI Captain): Hardik complimented the smart way the team was able to execute their plan and commended Rohit and Suryakumar for their dominance at the crease. "When Rohit comes good, the opposition teams are in trouble," he said. He also felt that MI is learning from their previous losses and sticking to the basics to good effect. Commenting about his bowlers, he felt that the total target of 175-180 was always chaseable in the conditions.

Suryakumar Yadav (MI): Suryakumar Yadav, who smashed an impressive 68*, was pleased to bat at No. 3. He gave thanks to Rohit for his support and for playing on Mumbai's red soil pitches, which allowed him to develop his sweeping skills. "I just felt like it was my day and just expressed myself." He reminded us that one should always play with freedom and expect to take the risks on the field.

MS Dhoni (CSK Captain): Dhoni conceded CSK did not show up, and he applauded Ayush Mhatre's aggressive knock but thought they fell short, likely on the acceleration at an earlier point. "175 was never a par score here," he said. He challenged the team to be realistic when they make mistakes, fix them, and then ensure they have a settled XI for consistency in the next matches.

IPL 2025's 38th match, Mumbai Indians (MI) vs Chennai Super Kings (CSK)—will take place on 20th April 2025 at the grand Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. This match is also called the "El Clasico" in the IPL world, where the two most successful teams of the league come together.

MI and CSK have clashed 38 times in the IPL, with 2 additional games in the Champions League T20.

 • MI Wins: 20

MI has a territorial advantage in winning the battles with 21 wins, meaning both teams have been engaged in multiple close games of the IPL. All matches are of high significance due to the IPL titles shared by both teams. With a batting-friendly pitch, Wankhede, with short boundaries to add to it, should provide some fireworks along with spins and pace together.

Weather and Pitch Report:

The temperature in Mumbai on April 20, 2025, will reach warm levels between 29 and 34°C under mostly sunny conditions accompanied by 50-60% relative humidity. Dew is expected to appear during the game, which provides advantages to the team starting their innings second. Thanks to its bowling comfort points, Wankhede Stadium provides excellent pace and bounce for heavy batting offense; however, early swing opportunities favor Jasprit Bumrah (MI) and Matheesha Pathirana (CSK) in their fast bowling approach. The wet conditions prevent spinners from achieving success toward the later part of the match. A score between 180 and 210 stands as competitive, while chasing offers the most advantage in this match.

MI vs CSK: Match Preview

The MI squad strives to achieve victory at their home ground after their loss against CSK in Match 3, where they managed to chase down 156 runs in 19.1 overs. Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav direct an offensive batting lineup that Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya strengthen. The team is led by Jasprit Bumrah, who approaches 300 T20 wickets, while Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar, and Mitchell Santner support their quick bowling attack. In his first matches against CSK, Vignesh Puthur made a successful 3/32 bowling appearance.

The success of CSK in Chennai provides momentum while Ruturaj Gaikwad delivers 53 runs off 36 balls against MI and Rachin Ravindra maintains stability with his 65* against MI. The batting lineup features middle-order players, including MS Dhoni, who needs 19 more runs to match the all-time record of CSK and Shivam Dube. Team India captain Rohit Sharma is among the luckiest cricketers who are honored with a stand named in the Wankhede stadium after them. In a recent interaction, the India captain opened up about his feelings regarding this special achievement.

For Rohit, it is unreal. Wankhede Cricket Stadium is his home ground, from where he evolved himself as a world-class batter and Team India skipper. Sharma said, "No one dreams of things like this when they are just starting off playing cricket. I still remember those days when I used to stand outside the Wankhede Stadium just to enter and watch the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team practice; I am talking about 2004 or maybe 2003."

The 37-year-old recalled his early days, when he was a cricket aspirant, and cricket lessons with friends. It was an emotional eve for Rohit. Addressing his childhood days, he said, "We used to finish our U-14 and U-16 training at Azad Maidan. I, with a few of my friends, used to travel across the railway track to go and just get a glimpse of some of the Ranji Trophy cricketers. I know how tough it was to get inside the Wankhede Stadium back then."

He further added, "Even now, obviously, no random people will be allowed inside the stadium… but those were the days. Now, to sit back and think that there is going to be a stadium stand in my name, it is such an unreal feeling. It is something that I have never thought of, and I will be forever grateful for this big honor in my life." The star opener has recently opened up about some of his backstories, like his infamous "koi garden mein nehi ghoomega" comment.

Rohit described how he was desperate to defeat the visitor, England. After the ongoing IPL 2025, India will fly to England for a Test series. Rohit is optimistic about a good result in the upcoming away series.

<![CDATA['Its a surreal feeling....' - Rohit Sharma expresses his feeling on a stand name after him at Wankhede Stadium]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/its-a-surreal-feeling-rohit-sharma-expresses-his-feeling-on-a-stand-name-after-him-at-wankhede-stadium/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/its-a-surreal-feeling-rohit-sharma-expresses-his-feeling-on-a-stand-name-after-him-at-wankhede-stadium/ Fri, 18 Apr 2025 14:20:13 GMT

India captain Rohit Sharma has claimed one more outstanding milestone in his distinguished career, a stand in honor of his name at the legendary Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) confirmed this decision at its Annual General Meeting on April 15, 2025, paying tribute to Rohit's significant contribution to Mumbai and Indian cricket over the years.

Rohit, who has played almost two decades for Mumbai in domestic cricket and took India to two big ICC titles in the past year, spoke about his feelings after the announcement. "It's a dream-like feeling to have a stand on my name, and I will always be thankful," Rohit said. "You never know how long you will play, but to receive these honours is something I could never dream of."

The Rohit stand will be placed at Divecha Pavilion, Level 3 of the Wankhede Stadium. It goes in the exclusive list of cricketing heroes Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, and Dilip Vengsarkar, who also have stands at the same venue named after them. Notably, Rohit becomes only the second active Indian cricketer after Virat Kohli, who has a stand in his name at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi to receive this rare tribute.

MCA also chose to dedicate stands to the late Ajit Wadekar and ex-MCA and BCCI President Sharad Pawar. Ajit Wadekar's name will adorn Grand Stand Level 4, while Pawar will be remembered with Grand Stand Level 3.

This distinction is on the heels of Rohit's successful captaincy in 2024 and 2025, when he led India to a T20 World Cup victory after 11 years and then followed it with a Champions Trophy victory in February 2025. Even though he drew criticism following a lean period in Tests, Rohit has still excelled in white-ball cricket and proved his mettle all over again.

With the next IPL match against Chennai Super Kings on April 20 at the same venue, the fans will now be supporting their hometown hero in front of the newly-named Rohit Sharma Stand a moment surely to be remembered in Mumbai cricket history.
