Nathan Ellis once again provided a crucial breakthrough for Australia, while the visitors India were moving on top in the 180+ chase in the third T20I of the five-match series at Hobart, as the Aussie pacer dismissed Axar Patel with another top bouncer, while Xavier Bartlett took a stunning catch.

While India were chasing down the 187-run target to level the series, they lost their third wicket at 76 runs in the eighth over, as Axar Patel came to the crease. With Tilak Verma, Axar set a crucial 35-run partnership for the fourth wicket. While India were dominating with 111/3 in 11 overs, Nathan Ellis, the bowler of the night for Australia, produced another crucial breakthrough by dismissing Axar.

Xavier Bartlett took stunning catch to dismiss Axar Patel

It was another well-directed short delivery, which cramped Axar, as the left-handed batter went for an uncontrolled pull shot with his top edge. While Xavier Bartlett was fielding at midwicket, he had to run forward for the catch and timely grabbed the ball, which was just going down. It was a brilliant catch on an outstanding delivery, as Axar was dismissed for 17 runs off 12 balls, where he hit one four.

India won by 5 wickets

Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav chose to field first, as Australia scored 186/6 in 20 overs. As the boundaries were small, India would be happy with the target. Arshdeep Singh (3/35) and Varun Chakravarthy (2/33) were the top Indian bowlers, while Tim David (74) and Marcus Stoinis (64) played crucial roles in the Aussie innings.

Meanwhile, India comfortably chased down the target in 18.3 overs after losing five wickets. While all Indian batters made some impacts in that chase, Washington Sundar played a memorable knock of 49 not out off 23 balls with three fours and four sixes. Nathan Ellis was the best bowler for Australia on the night (4-0-36-3), but he didn't get enough support from the other bowlers.

Abhishek Sharma has been in fine touch during the five-match T20I series against Australia down under. In the second clash at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, the left-handed batter contributed a sensational knock in a lone-fest game, which the Blue Brigade went on to lose. For India to complete a huge chase during the third encounter at the Ninja Stadium in Hobart, he was a key figure.

After missing the first couple of balls, Abhishek made room against Xavier Barlett and sliced the wide delivery over the point region for a flat six. In the second over against Sean Abbott, the Indian batter took his beat mode and clubbed the fourth ball for a boundary over the backward point region before flicking the next delivery for a six into the leg side.

The last ball of the second over was smacked straight down the ground as the opening batter used his feet and crunched it back past his partner, Shubman Gill. He raced away to 23 in just 12 balls as India made a fabulous start with the bat in the first three overs.

Winning the toss in a change of fortune, India’s captain Suryakumar Yadav decided to bowl first as the visiting management decided to make three changes to the playing eleven. Kuldeep Yadav, Sanju Samson, and Harshit Rana made their way out of the eleven in place of Arshdeep Singh, Washington Sundar, and Jitesh Sharma.

Australia kept losing wickets from one end before Tim David contributed with a splendid knock of 74 runs in 38 balls at a strike rate of nearly 195, riding on eight boundaries and five over boundaries. Later, in the middle over, Marcus Stoinis smashed 64 runs in 39 balls with the help of eight boundaries and two sixes to push them to 186/6 in their 20 overs.

India raced away to over 30 runs in three overs. This was a vital clash from their perspective to collect the win and stay alive in the series.

<![CDATA[[WATCH] Mitchell Marsh's fabulous catch dismisses Shubman Gill's mistimed drive during AUS vs IND 2nd ODI]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/watch-mitchell-marsh-s-fabulous-catch-dismisses-shubman-gill-s-mistimed-drive-during-aus-vs-ind-2nd-odi/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/watch-mitchell-marsh-s-fabulous-catch-dismisses-shubman-gill-s-mistimed-drive-during-aus-vs-ind-2nd-odi/ Thu, 23 Oct 2025 10:10:18 GMT

During the second ODI encounter between Australia and India at the Adelaide Oval, the pressure was on the Blue Brigade to make a strong return into the series and keep it alive before the third fixture in Sydney. But it wasn’t going to be an easy job, especially with the home side winning the toss and deciding to put the Shubman Gill-led side in over the surface, which was under the covers for a long time.

India made no changes in the eleven while the home side decided to bring Xavier Bartlett into the eleven. The right-arm pacer got the chance with the ball on the fifth over of the first innings, replacing Mitchell Starc. Rohit Sharma couldn’t find the normal timing and rhythm with the bat, and that put pressure on Gill.

The right-handed batter used his feet and got to the pitch of the delivery. But he couldn’t get the right elevation and timing off the blade as the mistimed shot ended into the hands of Mitchell Marsh, who dived to his right at the mid-on region to grab the catch to draw the first blood for nine runs in as many balls.

Watch: Shubman Gill fails for nine runs during AUS vs IND 2nd ODI

Gill started well in the clash as he drove Mitchell Starc’s full delivery for a four into the cover region before shuffling well in the middle. He is under pressure, undoubtedly having taken the ODI leadership responsibilities from Rohit before the start of the series.

Gill has overall smashed 2794 runs in 57 innings at an average of more than 57 and a strike rate of nearly 100 with the help of 15 half-centuries and eight centuries at the best score of 208 runs against New Zealand.

The Punjab-born will now need to take care of his batting for the third game. He perhaps looked to break the jail with a big shot, given Rohit was struggling on the other end, and it was important to gather runs by the end of the powerplay overs against the new ball.

<![CDATA[[WATCH] AUS vs IND 2nd ODI: Virat Kohli fails again for four four-ball duck in successive games]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/watch-aus-vs-ind-2nd-odi-virat-kohli-fails-again-for-four-four-ball-duck-in-successive-games/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/watch-aus-vs-ind-2nd-odi-virat-kohli-fails-again-for-four-four-ball-duck-in-successive-games/ Thu, 23 Oct 2025 10:03:18 GMT

India didn’t get a great start with the bat in the second ODI of the three-match series against Australia at the Adelaide Oval as they were returning into the series to gain victory and level the series. They also lost the toss and were put into bat first on a surface that had been under the covers for a long day and had gathered some moisture.

Virat Kohli was the focus for the encounter after the right-handed batter, who has an excellent record with the bat at this ground across formats, looked to open his account in this series. In the previous clash, his mistimed drive ended up in the hands of the backward point fielder as he returned for an eight-ball duck.

Kohli walked into the middle in Adelaide on the second ball of the seventh over. He shouldered the very first ball from Xavier Bartlett as the ball hit the gloves of the wicket-keeper. On the very next delivery, the right-arm acer kept it outside the off-stump, and Kohli didn’t have any intention of playing that.

Watch: Virat Kohli fails for four-ball duck in Adelaide during AUS vs IND 2nd ODI

On the third ball, the Delhi batter stayed low and tapped the ball into the off-side. It was a great defense from the batter who played the ball under his eyes. It was perhaps a great set-up from Bartlett, who went straight on the fourth delivery to Kohli, who missed it and was plumb leg before the stumps for a duck.

The veteran had a brief discussion with Rohit Sharma, who was unsure about taking the review for the Indian batter. Kohli got beaten on the inside edge, and looking at the line, it was nearly comfortable for the umpire to rule the batter out. Kohli, while going back, acknowledged the crowd by raising his gloves.

India had also lost Shubman Gill on the opening ball of the same over, while the right-handed batter’s mistimed drive ended into the hands of the mid-on fielder, Mitchell Marsh, who dived to his right to grab the catch. The tourists faced another tough start with the bat.

As Australia captain Mitchell Marsh won the toss at the Adelaide Oval, he elected to bowl first against India in the second ODI of the series. Australia currently has a 1-0 lead in the three-match series and have made three changes to their playing XI, whilst India has once again elected to stick with the same XI, despite suffering a crushing loss in the first ODI at Perth.

Australia have replaced Josh Philippe, Matthew Kuhnemann and Nathan Ellis with Alex Carey, Adam Zampa and Xavier Bartlett, respectively. Carey's inclusion brings further depth into the middle order, and experience behind the stumps after a good stint for South Australia in the Sheffield Shield. Zampa bolsters their spin options, and Bartlett takes the place of Ellis whilst adding a little extra pace to the mix.

Australia's pace attack has a big boost with Bartlett, as India look to square the series

The omission of Nathan Ellis raised a few eyebrows, especially given the reasonable pickup he had in Perth – he bowled a couple of brilliant deliveries which had ending Gill's innings, as well as taking 1/29 off five overs. However, Bartlett is in line with the Australian mindset and tactic thinking. Bartlett is renowned for his ability to swing the new ball and working to fuller lengths, both aspects that can translate positively on the Adelaide surface. His tall height and skillset can create an uncomfortable state for the Indian top order, who struggled against pace and bounce in the 1st ODI.

ALSO SEE: McGrath, Gillespie, Fleming share their favourite Indian fast bowlers

Another reason for a change in pace bowling is Australia's rotating squad policy. They have several pacers like Pat Cummins, Lance Morris, Jhye Richardson and Ben Dwarshuis on the recovery from injury, and the management are being conservative in terms of load management. Ellis is also a member of Australia's T20I squad for the upcoming series against India, therefore he is being managed for the shorter format where his ability will be more viable at the death.

There were no changes to India's playing XI after the loss. The experienced top order of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill are once again expected to set the tone, and keep the side alive in the series.

With cool conditions and early movement anticipated, Australia's choice to bowl first may pay off. India, on the other hand, will hope to counter early swing and post a competitive score on a ground that is generally a high scoring one.

In Match 23 of the 2025 Major League Cricket (MLC) season, the Texas Super Kings gave a power-packed performance to trounce the Washington Freedom by 43 runs at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill. Rain dominated the game as the match was reduced to 5 overs per side. Texas, who were put into bat, showed their intent early, with Shubham Ranjane and Donovan Ferreira putting on an explosive display. Ranjane struck 39 off 14 balls, while Ferreira hammered 37 off just 9, guiding Texas to a daunting total of 87/2.

In reply, Washington Freedom struggled to get any momentum during their chase. Glenn Phillips tried to stabilize the innings with an 18 off 11 cameo, but the pressure of the scoreboard was big. Rachin Ravindra and Mitchell Owen were unable to make their starts pay, and Texas bowlers, headed by Nandre Burger (2/12), kept tight lines.
Noor Ahmad and Akeal Hosein also bowled economically, picking up one wicket each, as Washington stumbled to 44/4 in their 5 overs. With this dominant win, Texas Super Kings moved up to second place on the points table with 12 points, overtaking Washington Freedom on Net Run Rate.
