Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir was recently in the headlines for his comments about the Indian Premier League. Gautam, currently off duty as IPL 2025 is ongoing, attended a program where he made some interesting comments. Before the IPL 2025, India won their first major ICC trophy, which was the Champions Trophy 2025. The former cricketer started his coaching career with India well but could not sustain the momentum. 

In the recent past, Gambhir had to face a lot of criticism from cricket fans and pundits after the Test series against New Zealand at home, where Rohit Sharma's team whitewashed 0-3, followed by another Test series lost against Australia at the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Gambhir has an open mouth about the criticism he had to suffer.

In his natural way of talking, he said, "I have been into this job for eight months. If results don't come, I am absolutely fine with criticism. It is people's job to criticize. There are people who have been sitting in the commentary box for 25 years and feel that Indian cricket is their personal fiefdom. Unfortunately, Indian cricket is no one's personal property, and it belongs to 140 crore Indians."

After the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where India lost against Australia, a part of the people also started to speculate that there could be some difference between the coach, Gautam Gambhir, and the skipper, Rohit Sharma. The former cricketer did not hesitate a second to deny such claims. 

"Who are these people who are saying all these things? These are speculations done by experts and those who run YouTube channels. Two months back, a coach and a captain together won a Champions Trophy," Gambhir said. 

Not only with Sharma were there some rumors about Virat Kohli as well. During the IPL, Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli had multiple heated moments on the field. Which led some people to speculate about a possible damage of relationship between these two, which Gambhir did not approve.

According to him, "It’s just two Delhi boys having fun. If that’s a problem, I’ll tell the BCCI to stop posting about it."

After the Indian Premier League 2025 conclusion, the team will take a flight to England for a Test series. BCCI has yet to announce the team. Senior players of the team, like Rohit and Virat, did not perform well in the Test. Indian cricket fans are curious to know about those senior players' future for the England tour. Gambhir, head coach of the team, did not want to make any comment regarding the squad.

He said, "So, this perception that the coach is the selector is not true. Neither was the coach before me a selector, nor am I a selector. Five selectors are selected when they come here. If you had called them, they would have given you a better answer to this question."

No for India vs Pakistan bilateral 

Amid the newly risen tension between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack incident, BCCI clearly said that they have no will to play any bilateral series with Pakistan. Some cricket persons believe that problems can be solved through the exchange of dialogues, while some others think that BCCI has taken the correct stand. 

Gambhir thought, "I have said this before also: no cricket match or Bollywood or any other interaction is more important than the lives of Indian soldiers and Indian citizens."
