India’s Tough Time at Edgbaston: Still Waiting for a Test Win

India has never had much success in Test matches at Edgbaston, Birmingham. Even though the Indian team has played 169 matches in England across formats winning 9 Tests, 45 ODIs, and 6 T20Is they are still waiting for their first Test win at this ground. India has played 8 Test matches here since their first in 1967, but a win has always slipped away.

Batting Woes in Birmingham

India is known for strong batting, but at Edgbaston, it’s been a struggle. Out of 16 Test innings here, India has crossed the 300-run mark only once. In their very first game at the ground, they were bowled out for just 92 runs. The only time India didn’t lose a Test here was way back in 1967, when the match ended in a draw.

England’s Strong Record

England has always looked comfortable at Edgbaston. In 2011, Alastair Cook scored a massive 294, helping England post 710/7 the highest total ever recorded in a Test match at this ground. That game ended in a huge innings and 242-run win for England. In 2022, India gave England a target of 378 runs, but the hosts chased it down quickly and won by 7 wickets.

A Ground Full of History

Edgbaston is one of England’s most well-known cricket grounds.
It was built in 1882 and is home to Warwickshire County Cricket Club. The ground has hosted international matches since 1902 and is known for its lively fans and big matches and in tests India was not performed well. For all of India’s cricketing strength, a Test win at Edgbaston remains something they are still chasing.
