Sourav Ganguly, the former president of the BCCI, who rarely responds to trolling on social media, broke the pattern in grand style by attacking those who were attempting to “twist” his tweet about Shubman Gill. After the Gujarat Titans opener scored his second century in IPL 2023, Ganguly praised Gill for helping the defending champions chase down 198 runs in 19.1 overs and eliminate Royal Challengers Bangalore.

GT, who had previously equipped for the end of the season games as the highest level group, spoiled RCB’s party and assisted MI with slipping through all because of Gill’s great batting. The right-hander crushed an unbeaten 104 off 52 balls eclipsing Virat Kohli’s 101 not out off 61 balls. In this edition, Gill had reached his second century. He had previously scored his first century in the IPL against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

After the GT vs. RCB final league stage match, Ganguly, who is known to be a huge Gill fan, took to Twitter to talk about the talent the league uncovers.

“What talent this country produces .. shubman gill .. wow .. two stunning knocks in two halves .. IPL.. .. what standards in the tournament,”

the former BCCI president wrote.

Fans, in any case, misconstrued Ganguly’s tweet and thought the former India captain purposely didn’t specify Kohli’s name

Many likewise see the “two centuries” part as Ganguly’s commendation for MI all-rounder Cameron Green, who had likewise hammered 100 years in the early evening game around the same time.

Ganguly responded a few days later with a blunt tweet after receiving a lot of backlash for not mentioning Kohli’s name or talking about his century in the same match.

Just a quick reminder .. hope those of you twisting this tweet, understand English .. if don’t please get someone responsible to explain,” Ganguly wrote clearly pointing out that the two centuries part was not for Gill but in fact, he was talking about Gill’s twin IPL centuries this year.

In addition, the former India opener clarified that his tweet had nothing to do with Kohli.

Since Kohli stepped down as India’s Test captain, Ganguly and Kohli have been at odds with each other. This occurred after Kohli was eliminated as ODI chief. Kohli stated that the board and selectors did not communicate properly with him after he resigned as captain. Ganguly was the president of the BCCI at the time.

However, in a Zee News sting, former India selectors chairman Chetan Sharma denied that and discussed the various versions of Kohli and Ganguly.

The pressure between the two was clear when RCB took on Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023. Ganguly, who is the coach of DC, strolled past Kohli during the post-match handshakes service, leaving fans infuriated. The team, notwithstanding, shook hands and welcomed each during the second-leg.
