Washington Freedom Holds Nerve to Beat MI New York by 2 Wickets in a Thrilling Finish

In MLC 2025, Match No. 11, Washington Freedom won by 2 wickets over MI New York. Chasing a big target of 188, Freedom got the job done in 19.2 overs, sending their fans into celebration mode.

MI New York batted first and got off to a good start. Quinton de Kock gave them a flying start with a quickfire 55 runs in 34 balls. Monank Patel added a steady 32, and then Michael Bracewell provided the perfect finish, smashing an unbeaten 42 off just 24 balls. MINY ended with a good total of 188 runs losing four wickets.

In reply, Washington Freedom lost a couple of early wickets, but then came Mitchell Owen, who turned the match on its head. He smashed a stunning 60 off only 26 balls, including 5 sixes, and completely changed the game’s momentum. Mark Chapman played a cool and calm knock of 45 runs in 32 balls, guiding the team through the tricky middle overs. Jack Edwards played quick fire 30 runs, keeping the chase alive.

The game went down to the wire. Freedom needed just a few runs in the last over, and Chapman calmly finished things off with a boundary. Despite a strong effort from Trent Boult and Sunny Patel, who took two wickets each for MINY, it just wasn’t enough. This win keeps Washington Freedom’s winning streak alive and lifts them the points table. For MI New York, it’s a tough loss after putting up a good total and fighting hard with the ball.
