Nottingham signs star India wicket keeper batter for remaining championship games
Ishan Kishan signs short-term deal with Nottinghamshire for two County Championship matches, marking his debut in English domestic cricket.

India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has signed a short-term deal with Nottinghamshire, subject to international clearance, and will be available for the next two matches in the Rothesay County Championship. The 26-year-old will represent the county in upcoming fixtures against Yorkshire at Trent Bridge and Somerset in Taunton. This is Kishan's initial period in county cricket, further enriching his already multi-faceted career.
Ishan, the multi-format international for India, has played Tests, ODIs, and T20Is and was included in the Indian team for the final of the 2023 World Test Championship. He made his Test debut soon after against the West Indies, where he impressed with an unbeaten 52 off only 34 balls in his second game. He will replace Kyle Verreynne, who is temporarily out because of South Africa's Test series in Zimbabwe.
At home, Kishan has been a support for Jharkhand, scoring more than 3,000 First-Class runs with eight centuries and 17 half-centuries. Behind the stumps, he has registered 118 dismissals. Interestingly, he had previously held Jharkhand's highest individual Ranji Trophy score record with a 273 against Delhi at the age of 18. In the IPL, he has represented Gujarat Lions, Mumbai Indians, and most recently Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he scored a blistering 47-ball century this year.
Ishan Kishan Excited for First County Experience
“I’m feeling very excited to get my first taste of playing county cricket in England, and it will be a great chance to showcase my skills,” said Ishan.
“I want to make sure I am the best cricketer I can be, and playing in English conditions will really help me to learn new skills. Trent Bridge is such a famous ground that is well-known in India and around the world, and I am really excited that I will be playing there.”

Head Coach Peter Moores expressed his enthusiasm about the signing: “We’re all very pleased to have secured the services of Ishan for these next two Championship fixtures while Kyle is away with South Africa. He brings proven quality in his ball-striking as a hard-hitting middle-order batter, but while he’s still developing his red-ball game, this spell will be really beneficial for him and for us.”
