Ravindra Jadeja, India’s eminent left-handed all-rounder, recently reflected on the pinnacle of his 16-year IPL journey. In an exclusive conversation with Star Sports preceding the 2024 edition, Jadeja disclosed his most memorable moment. He revealed that the fervent reception from fans upon Chennai Super Kings’ return to IPL 2018 following a two-year hiatus stands out as an unparalleled experience, unlikely to be replicated.

Known for his dignified demeanor on and off the field, Jadeja has been a stalwart in contributing to the Indian team’s triumphs in recent years. His profound appreciation for his supporters is evident, as he consistently endeavors to provide them with unforgettable moments. Whether through his distinctive sword celebration with the bat or his frugal bowling, Jadeja has consistently endeared himself to fans, solidifying his status as a cherished figure in cricket.

Ravindra Jadeja recounts the heartfelt moment when CSK fans warmly welcomed the team back at Chepauk after a two-year absence

Emotions soared and anticipation peaked as the Chennai Super Kings made their highly awaited return to their home ground at Chepauk in 2018, following their suspension due to illegal betting on games, as ruled by the Supreme Court, which also resulted in life bans for certain team officials.

Both sides refrained from contesting the decision, which received backing from the BCCI. Former BCCI chief Jagmohan Dalmiya emphasized the board’s commitment to upholding judicial rulings, stating, “BCCI is committed to honor and respect judicial decisions and it would give its observations after the entire report is read and a collective decision is taken.”

Consequently, CSK players found themselves dispersed, with some joining the Gujarat Lions and the rest aligning with the Rising Pune Super Giants. However, following the 2016 and 2017 editions, CSK, led by MS Dhoni, returned with an impactful comeback, securing their third IPL title by triumphing over the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final, as if their absence had never occurred.

“In 2018, as we made our way to practice in an open bus, there were fans who were visibly moved, some even shedding tears. Their overwhelming excitement and emotions were palpable as they welcomed us back after two years. Around 50-60 or perhaps even more people had tears in their eyes upon seeing the players. It was as if they couldn’t believe we were finally in Chennai again,” Jadeja revealed to Star Sports.

Jadeja preparing for the fifth Test match against England

Before embarking on the mission to defend the IPL title clinched by CSK last year, Ravindra Jadeja is focused on contributing to Team India’s quest to conclude the 5-match Test series against England on a high note. With the hosts currently leading 3-1, they are determined to secure nothing short of victory at Dharamshala, a triumph that would further solidify their standing in the points table of the WTC 2023-2025 cycle.

Jadeja, having amassed 217 runs and taken 17 wickets across the four Tests he has played, played a pivotal role in India’s dominance. His standout performance earned him the Man of the Match accolade in the third Test held in Rajkot, where India claimed a resounding 434-run victory, doubling their lead in the series.
