Shubman Gill Creates History with a Record-Breaking Show at Edgbaston
India’s captain Shubman Gill played one of the greatest Test matches of all time against England at Edgbaston. The young skipper scored a breathtaking 269 in the first innings and followed it up with another brilliant knock of 161 in the second.
With this, Gill became the first player in Test history to score both a double century and a 150 in the same match. He also became only the second batter ever to score 150+ in both innings of a Test, joining Australian legend Allan Border, who scored 150 and 153\* against Pakistan in 1980.

Gill’s consistency in this series has been outstanding. After Rishabh Pant scored hundreds in both innings of the first Test, Gill matched the feat in this game. He also became the eighth Indian to score centuries in both innings of a Test match, and only the third Indian captain to do so, after Sunil Gavaskar and Virat Kohli. Gill’s total of 430 runs in the match is the second-highest in Test history just behind Graham Gooch’s 456 runs for England in 1990.

In the second innings, Gill stitched a vital 110-run stand with Pant, who made a quick 65. Gill played smart cricket, starting patiently and then accelerating later in the day. He brought up his century in 129 balls and reached 150 in just 155 balls. He hit 13 fours and 8 sixes before getting out for 161.
