In the high-intense world of the Indian Premier League, where each match determines a team's playoff chances, even a single mistake can have game-changing consequences for a team. In a recent IPL 2025 encounter, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) were in the spotlight, not for winning, but for making very basic mistakes in a very important IPL match.

During their recent match against the Gujarat Titans (GT), SRH players made many basic fielding mistakes that proved very costly. Citing this, the Star Sports India commentators didn't hold back in criticizing the team's performance in the field. The commentators pointed out mistakes like dropped catches, poor fielding decisions, and missed run-outs are among the reasons why the team have lost the game and have dented their qualification chances to the next stage. During the commentatory stint, Deep Dasgupta stated that it does not seem that SRH are mentally in Ahmedabad.  

“It looks like SRH are here physically in Ahmedabad, but mentally they are still in the Maldives. We were talking about ordinary bowling, but the fielding has been quite ordinary too," Dasgupta said on Star Sports.

Harbhajan was also critical of the fielding and gave a reference to their holiday in the Maldives. The legendary India spinner remarked that the ball should have been stopped, pointing out that although the fielder had dived, it wasn’t as effective as it might have been if he were in the Maldives. He jokingly added that while they may have jumped and dived a lot in swimming pools there, such effort wasn't visible on the field.

“This ball should have been stopped. The fielder had dived, but not as good as he would have done in the Maldives. They must have jumped and dived around a lot in swimming pools there, but cannot see that on the ground here," the four-time IPL winner followed.

SRH have been below par throughout the tournament

This is not the first time that SRH's inconsistency has cost the team some valuable points. While their squad is packed with hard hitters with bat and wicket takers with ball, executing the real skill on the pitch has been a major problem for the team. At this point of time, when the net run rate and close call matches often eliminate a team from the playoffs qualification race, every mistake counts double.

Cricket, especially the T20 format, is a fast and intense format game. This format is a mental game as it is a physical one. Here, teams need to stay calm and focused under immense pressure and get the basic things correct. SRH's playoff chances are very nil, but if the team wants to reach the playoffs, they must cut down the basic mistakes in the field and play smarter cricket. The path ahead for SRH is not easy and is not just about winning matches; it is about regaining trust, focus, and discipline. The SRH team must now regroup, reflect, and return with a huge comeback. Fans still have faith in the team, but that faith needs to be repaid with good performances.
