Cricket fans worldwide are getting ready for a huge match. The Australia National Cricket Team will play the South Africa National Cricket Team in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2025. This big game will happen at Lord's Cricket Ground in London from June 11 to June 15.

Temba Bavuma will lead a confident South African team. They hope to win their first major ICC title in nearly thirty years. Standing in their way are the current WTC champions, Australia, led by Pat Cummins. The Australian team has been playing incredibly well in Test cricket. They aim to win their second WTC title in a row.

However, the English weather is often unpredictable. This raises questions: What happens if the WTC Final is stopped by rain? In this article, we will share all the details about this.

If rain or bad weather prevents the completion of the WTC 2025 Final between Australia and South Africa, the match will end in a draw or tie, and both teams will share the WTC mace.

To ensure a result, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has allocated a reserve day (Day 6) for the final. This extra day will only be used if the scheduled five days do not produce a result due to lost playing time.

This rule was first introduced in the inaugural WTC Final in 2021 when persistent rain affected the match between India and New Zealand in Southampton. The reserve day helped produce a result back then, and the same rule applies for the 2025 final.

The reserve day is a backup option to make up for time lost during the first five days of the match. This method was first used during the 2021 WTC Final, where Day 1 was completely washed out. The sixth day was used effectively to get a result.

With both teams eager to win and the added uncertainty of the English weather, the 2025 WTC Final is expected to be dramatic, emotional, and full of pressure as fans around the world watch history unfold.

South Africa's journey to the final has been truly amazing. The Proteas were at the top of the WTC points table. This was largely because they won their Test series against Pakistan by 2-0. This was their seventh Test win in a row, showing how strong and consistent they are in Test cricket. Along the way, they also had important wins against teams like Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. This gave them a lot of confidence going into the final.

Australia, led by Pat Cummins, wants to win the WTC trophy again after taking it home in 2023. The current champions arrive at Lord's with almost the same main group of players. However, David Warner, who retired from Test cricket earlier this year (January 2024), will not be there.

Teams:

Australia: Pat Cummins (captain), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Sam Konstas, Matt Kuhnemann, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Beau Webster.

Travelling reserve (extra player): Brendan Doggett

South Africa: Temba Bavuma (captain), David Bedingham, Corbin Bosch, Tony de Zorzi, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram, Wiaan Mulder, Senuran Muthusamy, Lungi Ngidi, Dane Paterson, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Tristan Stubbs, Kyle Verreynne.
