Another 'Gunfire Celebration' from a Pakistani batter after scoring a hundred. Experienced Pakistan batter Mohammed Rizwan was on the non-striker's end when his batting partner did the 'Gunfire Celebration.'

After Sahibzada Farhan, it is now Mohmmad Haris who has recently caught cricket fans' attention not only for batting reasons but also for manifesting expression through a 'Gunfire Celebration' after scoring a hundred during Pakistan's Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2025-26. The Peshawar Cricket Team survived the early blows for their two centurions against the Sialkot Stallions. Experienced Rizwan is the leader of the team, who scored the first hundred of the match and helped his team to bounce back. Haris joined the captain in the middle after the fall of their 5th wicket.

When Haris completed his century, Rizwan was unbeaten for 123 off 203 deliveries. Haris took 113 deliveries to touch the hundred-run milestone. The right-handed batter guided the ball towards the square leg for a single and completed the century. At first, his celebration was looking normal, throwing arms in the air, with a smile on his face, and he received greetings from the batting partner as well. Then, in a moment, Haris held his bat like a gun and pointed at someone.

Where does the 'Gunfire Celebration' come from?

Pakistan batter Sahibzada Farhan's gesture after scoring a half-century against India during the Asia Cup 2025 created a lot of controversies. During the Super Four match of the tournament, the Pakistan opener displayed the 'Gunfire Celebration.' This celebration came just months after the tragic Pahalgam terror attack, where 26 innocent Indian tourists were killed.

Cricket fans strongly criticized the gesture of the batsman. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) lodged a complaint to the International Cricket Council (ICC) in protest. ICC match referee Richie Richardson gave a warning to the Pakistan opener.

In the Asia Cup 2025 Final between India and Pakistan in Dubai, Axar Patel gave India a big breakthrough by dismissing Mohammad Haris for a silver duck in the 13.3 over. This came just after Saim Ayub was out, leaving Pakistan struggling in the middle overs. Haris tried to play a lofted drive over extra cover but missed the ball, and Rinku Singh caught it at wide long-off.

Axar Patel added to Pakistan problems after the earlier loss of their aggressive batter Sahibzada Farhan and Saim Ayub. Promoting Haris up the order did not work as planned. India’s spin bowlers took advantage of the pressure and picked wickets quickly. At the time Haris was out, Pakistan were 114/3.

Haris’s dismissal illustrates India’s great fightback in the middle overs with their spin attack. Pakistan’s intent to score quickly with aggressive stroke play has backfired, losing their key batters in quick succession, and they are now under pressure.

India Comback and Pakistan's Trouble

Pakistan's batting is in a lot of trouble. The first three wickets fell in quick succession to Farhan, Ayub and Mohammad Haris, which halted their momentum. And four wickets fell for only 18 runs, signalling a middle-order collapse. Pakistan will now need to stabilize their innings and run the ball against India's tight bowling. Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav are applying continuous pressure.

At the time of writing, Pakistan sit at 133 for 5 at the end of 16 overs. S Ali Agha, who is on 8 off 6 balls, is not out and Mohammad Nawaz is on 1 off 2 balls. Axar Patel has bowled extremely well, picking up 2 wickets for 26 runs in 4 overs. India continues to dominate the game in the pivotal middle-overs phase by keeping Pakistan on the back foot.

Pakistan didn’t make a sweet start with the bat during the Super 4 fixture of the 2025 season of the Asia Cup against Bangladesh at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium as they kept losing wickets regularly inside the first six overs of the innings. It was a do-or-die situation for the two sides as the winner would make it into the final to face India on September 28.

These kinds of games would always demand strong character. Pakistan, however, continued to make silly mistakes, whether it’s in the field or with the bat, as a video clip of their batters taking runs in between the 22-yard went viral. It just showed the carelessness of the batter, Mohammad Haris, who forgot to maintain the basics of the game.

The incident occurred during the final delivery of the 10th over of the first innings when the captain, Salman Ali Agha, and the wicket-keeper batter, Mohammad Haris, were there for the Pakistan side at the side. The former hit the ball in the gap and set off for a run as the long-on fielder missed to collect the delivery.

The fielding effort in the deep was poor, which prompted the batters to take the second run. The replays showed that while completing the first run, Haris forgot to keep the bat inside the line in the crease, which resulted in a short run, as the incident came across as an epic brain fade moment. It went viral as the fans started to make fun of the batter.

Pakistan posted 135 runs in their allotted 20 overs of the first innings as Haris ended with 31 runs in 23 balls before Mohammed Nawaz drilled a few big shots to get 25 runs in 15 balls at a strike rate of 166.67. The left-handed batter cracked two sixes and one boundary.

Shamim Hossain smacked 30 runs for Bangladesh, which ended up being the top score in the innings. However, none of the batters could stand before the opposition bowling as they got knocked out of the event with an 11-run defeat.

In Match 4 of the Asia Cup 2025, Pakistan elected to bat first, after winning the toss, and scored 160/7 in 20 overs, thanks mainly to Mohammad Haris’s contribution of 66 runs off 43 balls. When it came Oman’s turn to bat, they fell apart as they were bowled out for 67 in 16.4 overs and Pakistan won by 93 runs. The bowlers kept it tight with their lines and the fielders providing support helped choke Oman completely. Pakistan began their Asia Cup campaign in style with a strong statement to the tournament. Below are the main reasons for Oman defeat.

1. Pakistan’s imposing total backed by Mohammad Haris’s innings

Pakistan posted a strong 160/7 after being pegged back early. Mohammad Haris played a swashbuckling innings with 66 runs off 43 balls with seven fours and three sixes, anchoring the chase after the team lost early wickets and giving them a platform Oman couldn't match.

2. Oman’s batting collapse under relentless pressure

Once set a target of 161, Oman collapsed and lost wickets in lots. They were bowled out for 67 in 16.4 overs. Pakistan bowlers Sufiyan Muqeem (2/7), Faheem Ashraf (2/6), Saim Ayub (2/8), took advantage of the pressure, while the Oman batters flattered to deceive.

3. Effective spells and momentum-swinging breakthroughs

Pakistan's bowlers showed discipline and aggression. Muqeem was able to remove important batsmen with clever spin early, then Ashraf and Ayub took incisive lower-order wickets. Oman never adapted to their early wickets which turned into run-outs and half-chances, which changed the momentum completely. Because of their lower-order collapse, they gave up all hope.

<![CDATA[Why Mohammad Haris may not fit into Pakistan’s playing XI for Asia Cup 2025?]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-analysis/why-mohammad-haris-may-not-fit-into-pakistan-s-playing-xi-for-asia-cup-2025/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-analysis/why-mohammad-haris-may-not-fit-into-pakistan-s-playing-xi-for-asia-cup-2025/ Thu, 04 Sep 2025 14:57:54 GMT

Mohammad Haris has always been multi-faceted as a top-order batter, primarily batting in positions 1 to 3 in nearly three-quarters of his T20I innings. In this role, his calculated aggression and building up an innings suited him. However, the way Pakistan has gone into the Asia Cup has depended on a settled top three consisting most likely of Saim Ayub, Sahibzada Farhan, and Fakhar Zaman. Thus, Haris can no longer be in that position. The result? He has played in positions he has never played in, such as 4 or lower when the demands will be different from a top-order position. Therefore, both Pakistan's management and Haris himself exposed where he is only capable at the top.

As a top-order batter, he averages in the late teens at a strike rate above 140 with a hundred evidence that he can start and allow for a big acceleration. But as a top middle order or lower-order, his average is a pitiful late teens and below with a below-average strike rate that effectively disallows him as a real threat in shorter formats. When given the responsibility of opening, at least in the middle overs and death overs, he has a significant issue with timing or intensity and has demonstrated he does not have the ability to altered his game when conditions or overs available to him vary, the sort of flaw that could be detrimental given primarily only three overs or four in a middle overs situation. The issue is straightforward - Haris is a specialist in a role, and if moved from there, he is a long-term risk. For the Asia Cup in a tournament like this, having clarification in roles is crucial, and the risks that comes with his uncertainty mid-order is too much.

The Case for Alternative Lower-Order Options

In light of Haris's difficulties, Pakistan should be exploring other options that may fit the profile of a middle- and lower-order batsman better. One of the strongest options is Khushdil Shah. He has comfortably batted at No. 5 to No. 7 across both T20I series this year, effecting over 500 T20I runs in 2025, averaging above 30 with a strike rate near 147. Khushdil has shown he can shift the gears of innings when required, whether that be quickly at the start or accelerating in the mid or late stages. Khushdil also has additional value as a left-arm spin option, a useful tool on UAE pitches, which often seek out more subtle variations. Given that there is expected to be some emphasis on using slow, spin- friendly surfaces within a tournament strategy, Khushdil's added versatility may afford Pakistan some critical flexibility.

Also, wicketkeeper-batter Sahibzada Farhan could provide a way of managing roles. Farhan has consistently kept wicket across both previous matches, and could combine the role with warming-up in one dual-role for the team plan and to benefit from everyone else. Farhan's selection would also provide the squad with rotational capacity, but also have depth in both disciplines, keeping and batting. Although a balanced, reliable, all-round side is preferred, and if pakistan put a plan in place which contains Khushdil or Farhan to situational adjust and others accordingly, then it is obviously better to rely on them instead of forced-fitted Haris where he has had no experience and success to date.

In the third and final T20I at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, Pakistan completed the clean sweep against Bangladesh by comfortably chasing down the target of 197 in just 17.2 overs. Bangladesh chose to bat first and set a very competitive total of 196/6 from their 20 overs, but Pakistan chased that down with ridiculous ease, with Mohammad Haris scoring a stunning century.

Bangladesh Innings

Bangladesh started off strongly at the opening of the innings, with Parvez Hossain Emon opening the batting for Bangladesh, smashing a quickfire 66 from just 34 balls, with Tanzid Hasan adding a steady 42 from 32. Towhid Hridoy added a useful 25 (18) to help Bangladesh to a strong total. Abbas Afridi finished with the best figures for Pakistan, with 2/26, and Hasan Ali was also respectable with 2/38, and Shadab Khan chipped in with 1/26 in 3 overs.

Pakistan Innings

Pakistan's innings was in the reverse order, with Haris anchoring the chase superbly with an unbeaten 107 from 46 balls, with Saim Ayub (45 from 29) and Hassan Nawaz (26 from 13) all contributing, and Pakistan comfortably chased the total down with 16 balls to spare. Even though Bangladesh tried to fight back with Mehidy Hasan Miraz (2/26) and Tanzim Hasan Sakib (1/36), no one had any answers to the aggressive batting.

This emphatic victory by 7 wickets secured Pakistan a series final score of 3-0. Mohammad Haris's scintillating century was the star of the game and the series. Haris's aggressive stance smashed the Bangladesh bowling attack and confirmed his emerging brand of T20 for Pakistan.

Pakistan's newfound victory not only secured the series but also exhibited the depth and firepower of their youth in preparation for future T20s.

In the Pakistan Super League match against Peshawar Zalmi, Pakistan’s star pacer Shaheen Afridi played a thunderous innings. The captain of the Lahore Qalandars, Shaheen, broke Mohammad Haris’ bat with the first ball of the innings and sent the stumps flying on the next delivery to give the Qalandars a fantastic start to the game. Shaheen also got rid of Zalmi captain Babar Azam, who also leads the Pakistan national team, after a few overs.

After a hiatus of more than two months, Shaheen resumed playing cricket with the Pakistan Super League; Shaheen had to leave the T20 World Cup final in November of last year as Pakistan conceded a defeat to England because his knee injury recurred. In his first appearance in the PSL, the left-arm pacer has taken 10 wickets in four matches, which is quite impressive.

After posting a massive score of 240/3 in 20 overs, Qalandars restricted Zalmi to 201/9 thanks to Shaheen’s brilliant figures of 5/40 in four overs

He then went on to take five wickets in the match. Abdullah Shafique (75) and Sam Billings (47*) also made important contributions with the bat, but Fakhar Zaman (96) scored the most runs for the Qalandars in a ferocious innings with three fours and ten sixes.

After Haris (0) and Babar (7) were dismissed early, the Zalmi’s Saim Ayub (51) and Tom Kohler-Cadmore (55) added 91 runs for the third wicket; However, the team took a number of wickets as a result of Kohler-Cadmore’s departure. In addition to Shaheen, Qalandars took wickets from Zaman Khan (2/28), Haris Rauf (1/38) and Rashid Khan (1/49).

“The overall credit goes to the batters as they were confident about going out and batting first on this green wicket. We have depth and variety in our bowling attack. With the arrival of Billings, the middle order has become stronger. All the teams are going good and we can’t take anyone lightly in this tournament. I tried my best and focused on landing the ball on the hard length area and it worked for me,”

Shaheen said after the match.
