In the aftermath of Royal Challengers Bengaluru's historic first Indian Premier League (IPL) championship win in 2025, tearful Virat Kohli spoke before a full M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in the team's homecoming ceremony. The crowd was charged up with thousands of people shouting "Kohli, Kohli" in unity, which led to the RCB legend asking for a short break. "I don't have much time. We need to wrap this up." We have to display our trophy," he smiled, calling upon the crowd to allow him to speak.

Kohli started his address with a statement that marked the end of an 18-year waiting game: "It's no more Ee Saala Cup Namde. It's Ee Saala Cup Namdu. We have done it." His words renewed cheerfulness all over the stadium. He had the victory dedicated to RCB's faithful supporters and the city of Bengaluru in appreciation of their unstinting support during almost two decades of ups and downs. "This victory is not merely for the players but also for the supporters, the people of this great city," he further said.

Emotionally touched, Kohli praised the RCB supporters as unrivaled in international sport. "I have never seen any fanbase of any team in the world like you guys. Congratulations to all of you," he asserted. His humility and sense of appreciation touched the hearts of the wave of fans who had supported Kohli since the beginning of the franchise.

A Special Tribute to RCB's New Captain

Kohli then addressed the team's new captain, Rajat Patidar, who led RCB to their first title. Going back to the pre-season 'Unbox' function, Kohli reminded supporters how he stood up for Patidar being a future leader. "I said one thing very clearly: 'This guy is going to lead us for a long time to come,'" Kohli said, calling on supporters to hail their new captain loudly.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) stars went wild celebrating their historic win in the Indian Premier League (IPL), igniting social media posts. The players all returned from Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium, led by skipper Rajat Patidar and backed by icon Virat Kohli, to their hotel in very high spirits. Video footage of the arriving players showed them dancing to everyone's excitement, with Kohli, Krunal Pandya, Patidar, and the vice-captain Jitesh Sharma joining the festivities.

Though Kohli kept his dance moves minimal, it was Patidar who stole the show in the lively dancing, appearing to fully enjoy their historic win. RCB won the IPL title for the first time in franchise history with a thrilling six-wicket win over the Punjab Kings (PBKS), and after an 18-year wait, Kohli finally captured his first IPL title. After a competent performance from the spinners and standout death bowling, RCB wrapped it up despite a battling performance from Shashank Singh, who was unbeaten on 61.

In an emotional post-match interview, Kohli dedicated the win to RCB's loyal fanbase and reflected on his long journey. “It’s been 18 long years. I’ve given this team my youth, prime, and experience. Every season I tried to win it and gave it my all. To finally have it—it’s an unbelievable feeling,” he said, visibly moved.

Tribute to AB de Villiers

Kohli paid a heartfelt tribute to his ex-teammate AB de Villiers and the huge impact he made on the franchise. “What ABD has done for the franchise is incredible. I told him, ‘this win is as much yours as it is ours.’ Even in retirement, he still remains one of the most effective players in our history,” Kohli said.

In a pulsating IPL 2025 Final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) edged past Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 6 runs to clinch their maiden IPL title. The match was a rollercoaster, filled with emotional highs and moments of brilliance from both sides. Here's how the players and coaches reacted to the unforgettable night:

Rajat Patidar (RCB Captain)

“This is really special — for me, for Virat, and for all the RCB fans. They’ve stood by us through thick and thin. 190 was a strong total on this pitch, and our bowlers executed beautifully.

I have immense faith in Krunal — he's my go-to man under pressure. The pacers — Bhuvi, Hazlewood, Dayal, and Romario — all stepped up when it mattered most.

Leading RCB with Kohli playing under me is a dream. He deserves this more than anyone. This win is for him and every RCB fan.

One line for the fans — EE SALA CUP NAMDU!

Shreyas Iyer (PBKS Captain)

“We are dejected, yes — but proud. We restricted RCB to 190, which was below par in our eyes. Our bowlers tried hard, especially Krunal. But hats off to RCB; they held their nerves.

I'm very proud of our youngsters. This experience will serve them well. The goal now is to come back stronger and lift the trophy next year.

We’ve built a core here — one full of heart, hunger, and belief. This campaign has shown that we can compete with the best, and I truly believe this is just the beginning of a new era for PBKS.

The support from the owners, coaches, and fans has been phenomenal. They believed in us even when we were written off, and that belief carried us through tight matches all season.

There are plenty of positives — our fearlessness, the emergence of young talent, and our ability to handle pressure. This final was painful, but it’s also fuel. We’re coming back hungrier, stronger, and with unfinished business.”

Virat Kohli

“18 long years. I’ve given my everything to this team — my youth, my prime. I dreamt of this day, and finally, it’s here.

AB de Villiers deserves this too. He’s been an integral part of this journey.

This is one of the biggest moments of my life. I stayed loyal to this team, and I’ll retire with this badge. Tonight, I’ll sleep like a baby.”

Krunal Pandya (Player of the Final)

“I observed from the dugout that bowling slower was the key. You need guts in this format — I just backed myself to vary pace and stay brave.

I told Hardik, there’ll be nine trophies in the Pandya household — now it’s true! Manifested this on day one with RCB.”

Josh Hazlewood

“Winning this with RCB means everything. We've fought for this for years. You only improve in pressure situations like these — and we did.”

Bhuvneshwar Kumar

“We knew 180 was defendable on this pitch, and getting 190 was a bonus. Everyone executed slower balls perfectly — Krunal’s spell turned the match.”

Dinesh Karthik (Mentor, RCB)

“This title belongs to every RCB fan, player, and staff member. Kohli, ABD, and Gayle — they laid the foundation. Andy Flower’s vision and planning were spot-on.”

Andy Flower (RCB Head Coach)

[Received the Winners’ Trophy on behalf of RCB]
“This is a reward for discipline, belief, and vision. The boys delivered when it mattered most.”

Shashank Singh (PBKS)

*Played a valiant knock of 61 off 30.*
“We came so close. It hurts to fall short, but I'm proud of the fight. We’ll take this experience and return stronger.”

Phil Salt

“This is unreal. So proud of the boys. Becoming a father this season brought us luck. Thanks to the amazing fanbase.”

Jitesh Sharma

“I’m so happy for Virat bhai. 18 years of effort finally paid off. You do something extraordinary for others — magic happens.”

Mayank Agarwal

“Life is unpredictable. Stick with it, keep grinding — and you’ll get your moment. RCB’s journey is proof.”

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) broke their 18-year title drought in 2025 when they won their first-ever Indian Premier League (IPL), defeating Punjab Kings in a thrilling final by a margin of six runs. The match, held on June 3 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, ushered in a new chapter in RCB's history. Amid the wild celebrations, one moment stood out—RCB skipper Rajat Patidar passionately declaring, “Ee Sala Cup Namdu,” a phrase that has long echoed through the hearts of RCB fans.

In a lot of ways, the iconic Kannada slogan, which translates to "This time, the cup is ours," has been both a blessing and a curse for RCB fans over the years. After witnessing so many near misses, Patidar shouting out "Ee Sala Cup Namdu" in elation following the final win re-awakened a river of emotions from the fans. The phrase, which was once out of reach of the fans, was now validated. For the first time, it was no longer just a battle cry but reality.

Rajat Patidar, who led the team with a cool head and vision all season long, was excellent in the final as captain and with the bat. Indeed, leadership - along with strong senior executive performances from Virat Kohli and others - enabled RCB to manufacture 190 runs in the first innings and successfully defend that total. When Patidar shouted the famous phrase on live television, it was a sequence of emotions for a fanbase that had waited nearly twenty years for the magical moment when they could be champions.

A New Era Begins for RCB

With a thrust of that emphatic declaration, Patidar not only celebrated a victory; he made a 10-year dream into a celebratory proclamation of confidence. A slogan that represented unfulfilled promise is now a new era for RCB. Within minutes after the confused firework display in Ahmedabad, fans across the globe finally heard the words they were consistently hoping to hear—"Ee Sala Cup Namdu" is no longer a dream, but it is history.

Royal Challengers Bangalore has ended the drought of 18 years. RCB finally won the title of IPL 2025 in the 18th season. RCB defeated Punjab Kings by 6 runs in the final. With this victory, the dream of Virat Kohli and all those fans of RCB was fulfilled who were dreaming of winning the title since 2008. At the same time, Punjab Kings, who reached the final after 2014 under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, was heartbroken. Punjab team lost in the final.

Philp Salt could not give a great start to RCB, who came to bat first after losing the toss in Ahmedabad ground. Salt was trapped by Jamieson and he went out after scoring 16 runs in nine balls. While Virat Kohli remained firm at one end, on the other side Mayank Agarwal could only score 24 runs in 18 balls with two fours and a six and after him captain Rajat Patidar could only score 26 runs in 16 balls with one four and two sixes. Due to which RCB lost three wickets for 96 runs.

After three for 96, Kohli was trapped by Omarzai in the 15th over of the innings and he went after scoring 43 runs in 35 balls with three fours. Fans also trolled Kohli for his slow play. While in the end Jitesh Sharma scored 24 runs in 10 balls with two fours and two sixes for RCB, Arshdeep Singh kept RCB away from 200. In the last over, Arshdeep showed his flair and took three wickets. Due to which RCB's team could only reach 190 runs for nine wickets in 20 overs and remained away from 200. Arshdeep and Kyle Jamieson took the maximum three wickets for Punjab.

Punjab's middle order flopped

Punjab Kings got off to a good start. Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh started in the opening. Both of them together added 43 runs for the first wicket but then Priyansh Arya was out for 24 runs. Arya was caught by Phil Salt. Now Josh Inglis came to the crease and he fully supported Prabhsimran Singh. Both of them together took the score to 72 runs. Prabhsimran was playing big shots but then Krunal Pandya dismissed him and gave a big success to RCB.

Now Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer is at the crease but Iyer flopped. Iyer was run out by Romario Shepherd for just one run. Iyer's wicket was the biggest success for RCB. Inglis was playing from the other end but he was out on a score of 98. Inglis' wicket was taken by Krunal Pandya. Inglis scored 39 runs in 23 balls. Nehal Vadhera was expected to perform brilliantly but he was out on 15 runs. Finally RCB won the finals after 17 years.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) skipper Rajat Patidar played an important knock when his team was struggling at the beginning of the first innings.

RCB lost the wickets of Phil Salt and Mayank Agarwal early, within the first half of the innings, and Punjab Kings (PBKS) were looking comfortable enough at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, in the all-important match of IPL 2025.

Punjab Kings bowlers have adopted an interesting tactic to lower RCB's run rate. They chose to bowl closer to the batter's body so that the batsman can't expand his wings for a flier. Yuzvendra Chahal did not make any delay to draw a smile on Shreyas Iyer's face, the skipper of PBKS, who won the IPL 2024 title with Kolkata Knight Riders.

Patidar skilfully dispatched a quicker from Chahal

When Patidar stepped into Narendra Modi Stadium as the number 4 batter to stitch a sustainable partnership with Virat Kohli, RCB was then 56 for 2. Patidar and Kohli slowed down their batting to accustom themselves to the atmosphere and situation, then gradually started to apply pressure on the throttle.

During his 16-ball, 26-run short innings, Patidar had played multiple good-looking shots; one of those came against Chahal as well. It was a slightly quicker delivery from the spinner in the 9th over, and Patidar, one knee down, shamed the ball between the deep mid-wicket and long-on areas for a maximum.

Despite spending some time on the wicket, the RCB skipper was not able to convert his innings for a huge score. The right-handed batter departed after being hit by a slower knee-height ball by Kyle Jamieson during the 11th over of the innings when Bengaluru was at 96 and Virat Kohli was on the field, not out.

Weather and Pitch Report

The IPL 2025 Final in Ahmedabad has an 80% chance of rain the evening of the match, with thunderstorms possibly stopping or delaying the match. The temperature is expected to be around 34.1°C, with humidity around 47%. it will be important to remember that dew will be an obstacle in the second innings. The toss is going to be very important, as we expect teams to dislike batting first. The pitch looks good for batting, as the ball goes straight and carries well with good bounce, with a par above 200 being the general expectation. Pacers will get some sideways ball movement when humid, as is expected, while spinners should rely on their normal variations. The short boundaries and wet conditions will lead to difficulty defending total scores.

RCB vs PBKS: Match Preview

RCB, led by Rajat Patidar, are on a mission to erase a 17-year drought towards the elusive IPL title and have established themselves as serious contenders with their dominant form in 2025. RCB thrashed PBKS in Qualifier 1 to reach the final with a comfortable eight-wicket victory and have ample confidence after a dominant season. Virat Kohli leads the RCB top order; his output is complemented by Phil Salt and Mayank Agarwal, allowing for the ability to kick off quickly. RCB can also build pressure with swing bowling from Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, while Suyash Sharma adds some air to the ball and controls the length of the innings. With Tim David available and nine different match-winners, RCB are starting to put together a fully functioning unit, which is advantageous heading into the final.

PBKS, led by Shreyas Iyer, have a very reasonable chance towards their first IPL trophy after finishing first in the league and defeating MI in Qualifier 2. Iyer is the linchpin of their batting, with contributions from Josh Inglis and emerging talent Priyansh Arya. Late-game damage can come with the power of Marcus Stoinis and Nehal Wadhera. With Arshdeep Singh, Chahal, Marco Jansen, and Harpreet Brar, PBKS has a versatile bowling attack. PBKS will rely on explosive starts with batters controlling the middle to quiet their opposing rhythm.

Away from all the madness that has ensued in the ongoing IPL edition, the Royal Challengers Bangalore were seen having a light moment ahead of the grand final on June 3. The team celebrated the birthday of their skipper, Rajat Patidar, and their batting coach, Dinesh Karthik, on June 1. Notably, RCB became the first team to qualify for the final this season.

Three cakes were arranged to kick off the celebrations. The entire team, including the coaching staff, sang along as both Rajat and DK went about cutting them amid "Happy Birthday" chants. It turned out to be an extravagant cake facial-fest. In no time, the birthday celebration turned messy. Cakes were being smeared around on the faces of Patidar and DK by their teammates. In addition, Jitesh Sharma and a few others also received cake facials, and the mood in the entire RCB camp appeared bright.

It's Rajat Patidar vs. Shreyas Iyer. After their face-off during the SMAT (Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy) final in 2024, they are now set to face each other for the ultimate title shot of IPL 2025 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. The last time when Iyer and Patidar met in a final match, which was in SMAT last year, Iyer was the man who donned the silverware then.

On December 14, 2024, Mumbai and Madhya Pradesh squared off in the final match to claim the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Shreyas Iyer, the leader of Mumbai, decided to chase a total after winning the toss and invited Rajat Patidar-led Madhya Pradesh to bat first. On pen and paper, Madhya Pradesh's playing combination had been outclassed by Mumbai's star-studded XI, but as soon as the match progressed, the rivalry was getting more interesting, thanks to Rajat Patidar, who played an unbeaten 81 off 40, powered by six 4s and six 6s, with a strike rate of 202.50. Though the other batters of Madhya Pradesh were unable to support their captain for a sustainable partnership, they finished their innings at 174/8 in 20 overs.

Patidar was in great form in the tournament with 428 runs, just behind Ajinkya Rahane's 469. But the MP skipper has a better average than Rahane. The experienced batter from Mumbai summed up his SMAT season with an average of 58.62, and Patidar's was 61.14. Iyer was in fourth place on the list with 345 runs in total and 49.28 on average.

Same captains, different title race

But an individual brilliancy can't lead a team to the final of a long tournament like SMAT. Mumbai performed like a unit throughout the tournament, and they found success.

In the summit clash of 2024, collective efforts from Ajinkya Rahane, Suryakumar Yadav, and Suryansh Shedge helped Mumbai to chase down the target set by Madhya Pradesh in 17.5 overs and win the title under Shreyas Iyer's leadership.

While the wait for the final will still continue for Punjab.

RCB in the final after 9 years

IPL 2025 has been very special for the Bangalore team since the beginning. This is the reason why the team has also reached the final of this season. The first qualifier match was played on 29 May in which the team of Punjab Kings was face to face. In this match, Punjab batted first but the team was restricted to just 101 runs. All the batsmen failed to score runs for Punjab in this match. On the other hand, RCB completely dominated Punjab in this match. Be it batting or bowling. Because RCB chased this target of 102 runs in just 10 overs.

Punjab Kings have reached Qualifier 2 after losing in the first qualifier. While the eliminator match of this season will be played on 30 May. In which the teams of Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians were face to face. Whichever team wins this match will play against Punjab on June 1 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see whether Punjab will be able to win this match or say that it will be out of the playoffs despite topping the points table.
