Though the recent ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 didn't go the way of the hosts and still acts as a forgettable moment to encounter for many Indian cricket fanatics, it has been touted to be one of the best tournament runs that the team had. Be it having a 100% win rate or ticking all the cricketing departments, the squad had the right balance and mix for an impeccable arsenal.

However, the next ICC CWC will be coming up in 2027 in the African subcontinent, and we could see some Indian stars bidding adieu to the sport and its matches, citing their age, fitness and other factors. Here are the five Indian cricketers we might not see playing in the 2027 ICC CWC tournament.

Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma was the tournament's finest captain since he made an impact in every game and led the team from the front. Thanks to him, he has ended an 11-year-long hiatus by winning the 2024 T20 World Cup and retiring from his T20I career in style.

As it suggests, it was known that this might be his final ICC Cricket World Cup, and he wanted to go out on top. Rohit ended up with 597 runs, the most scored in a single edition. The 37-year-old will be 40 in 2027, making it difficult for him to continue implying his World Cup career may get a full stop.

Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli set some significant milestones at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, which were only a dream for other players. He elevated his performance to new heights and was unstoppable, but it did not result in a victory. Virat scored 765 runs at a 95.62 average, including three centuries and six half-centuries. And he has undoubtedly upped the level of performance in World Cup history.

But it appears he saved his best for the last. The 35-year-old is unlikely to compete in the next edition and has given his all in this competition. Also, after playing a pivotal role in the recent 2024 T20 WC triumph, he has hung his boots in the shortest format of the game. Despite his excellent fitness, given the quantity of cricket he plays, he will struggle to remain relevant until 2027.

Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja provided superb support to India's bowling assault with his left-arm spin bowling, taking 16 wickets in 11 games at an economy rate of 4.25. He scored 120 runs for the team in five innings, with an impressive average of 40. On the fitness scale, Jadeja is superb, but his age may limit his chances of making India's World Cup 2027 squad.

The renowned all-rounder is currently 35 years old, making maintaining fitness and form challenging. If he fails to sustain either, the team management will not hesitate to bring in a new face, especially after his lacklustre performance in the Indian team's successful 2024 T20 World Cup.

Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin, the 37-year-old offspinner, is approaching the final chapters of his international career. Ravi Ashwin was a member of the Indian side that played the opening game against Australia. He wasn't even in India's preparations for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 but stepped in after Axar Patel suffered an injury.

We may have witnessed Ashwin's last World Cup appearance, and he may be the first to put up his boots for the white-ball format. The spinmeister has the power to flip a vital match around and win it for his team.

Mohammed Shami

It is exceedingly difficult for any fast bowler to have a successful career, and Mohammed Shami appears to have played his final ICC Cricket World Cup. The 33-year-old performed admirably throughout the tournament. He was benched for the first four games but never looked back once he received his first opportunity.

Shami took 24 wickets in just seven games, being the quickest to 50 wickets in ICC Cricket World Cup history. He also became India's leading wicket-taker in the World Cup and had outstanding statistics. He will be 37 years old when the next World Cup occurs, and we may not see him around by then.
