In Match 64 of IPL 2024, Delhi Capitals secured a convincing 19-run win against the Lucknow Super Giants, propelled by a well-rounded team effort and notable individual performances. Following this victory, DC climbed to the fifth position on the points table, accumulating 14 points from 14 matches. They still hold a slim hope of qualifying if CSK and SRH suffer significant defeats.

Letโ€™s quickly recap on the proceedings of the game;

Delhi Capitals set a target of 209 runs batting first

Opting to bat first, Delhi Capitals set a formidable target of 208 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs. Despite the early dismissal of Jake Fraser-McGurk by Arshad Khan, Abishek Porel and Shai Hope anchored the innings with a composed partnership. Porel displayed aggressive batting, smashing 58 runs off 33 deliveries, featuring 4 boundaries and 5 sixes, before being dismissed by Naveen-ul-Haq. Meanwhile, Hope contributed a steady 38 off 27 balls, maintaining a strike rate of 140.74.

Rishabh Pant made a quick fire 33 runs

Captain Rishabh Pant continued the momentum with a brisk 33 off 23 balls before being dismissed by Naveen-ul-Haq, who was the pick of the bowlers for Lucknow with figures of 4-0-51-2. The real star with the bat, however, was Tristan Stubbs, who played a scintillating knock, remaining unbeaten on 57 off just 25 balls, hitting three boundaries and four sixes. Axar Patel added a quickfire 14 off 10 balls to ensure Delhi surpassed the 200-run mark.

Nicolas Pooran and Arshad Khan led LSG fightback

In retaliation, Lucknow Super Giants encountered difficulties right from the start. Ishant Sharma made early breakthroughs, dismissing captain KL Rahul for 5 and Quinton de Kock for 12, leaving Lucknow in a precarious position at 24 for 2. Marcus Stoinis briefly resisted with 5 off 7 balls before succumbing to Axar Patel, and Deepak Hooda was dismissed lbw by Ishant without scoring.

Nicholas Pooran injected some hope with a rapid 61 off 27 balls, featuring six sixes, but lacked support from his teammates. Ayush Badoni and Krunal Pandya failed to convert their starts into substantial scores. The lower order showed some resilience, particularly Arshad Khan, who remained unbeaten on a courageous 58 off 33 balls, but the target proved insurmountable.

Delhi’s bowlers maintained discipline, with Ishant Sharma (4-0-34-3) and Mukesh Kumar (4-0-33-1) leading the way. Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel also contributed with crucial wickets, each claiming one. Tristan Stubbs, in addition to his batting exploits, impressed with the ball, taking one wicket for just four runs in his sole over.
