IPL 2024: Key points, Match 49, CSK vs PBKS

In a thrilling match at Chepauk, the Punjab Kings emerged victorious against the Chennai Super Kings by 7 wickets, extending their winning streak against CSK to an impressive five in a row. This achievement now places them alongside the Mumbai Indians as the only teams to achieve such a feat.

PBKS defeat CSK with amazing performance

The match saw CSK batting first but struggling to put up a competitive total, falling short of what could have been a challenging score, around 162 runs. While the openers provided a steady start, CSK’s middle order faltered under pressure from Punjab’s spinners.

Ruturaj Gaikwad’s valiant effort, scoring 62 runs, was the only shining moment in an otherwise dim batting performance. Adding to CSK’s woes, their early bowling concerns worsened with Deepak Chahar’s unfortunate injury.

Shashank Singh and Sam Curran ensure final victory

Punjab’s chase began cautiously, but it was the solid partnership between Rilee Rossouw and Jonny Bairstow that laid a strong foundation for their innings. With consistent boundaries and controlled aggression, they managed to keep ahead of the required run rate. Despite Bairstow’s departure, Rossouw continued to dominate, while contributions from Shashank Singh and Sam Curran ensured a comfortable victory for Punjab, marking their fourth win of the season.

CSK’s bowling struggled to make an impact, facing challenges from the dew and bowling predictable lines. The absence of Mustafizur Rahman and Chahar’s injury further limited their options, allowing Punjab’s strong batting display to seal a convincing win.
