IPL 2024: Qualification scenario for all 10 teams
KKR and RR are two teams who are more likely to finish at top spots

As the IPL 2024 season approaches its crucial stage, the competition for a spot in the playoffs has become more intense. All teams are fully prepared and striving to deliver their best performance to secure a position in the top four. With just 14 matches remaining in the league stage of IPL 2024, no team has secured a playoff spot, and none have been eliminated yet. Let’s examine the qualification scenarios for all the teams after match number 58;
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)
With 16 points secured and an impressive net run rate of 1.453, Kolkata Knight Riders are on the brink of securing a playoff berth in the IPL 2024. Even in their worst-case scenario of losing all three remaining matches and maintaining a tally of 16 points, they still have a chance. However, if teams like Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, and either Lucknow Super Giants or Sunrisers Hyderabad reach 18 points, KKR will have to compete for the fourth playoff spot. Alternatively, if Delhi Capitals win their last two matches, there could be a situation of a four-way tie at 16 points, with two spots available, and Royals and CSK already assured of qualification. To simplify their qualification path, KKR needs to win at least one more match to reach 18 points.
Rajasthan Royals (RR)
Similar to KKR, the Rajasthan Royals are also on the verge of securing a playoff spot, needing just one more win to solidify their qualification in IPL 2024. However, if they were to lose all three remaining matches, the qualification scenario could hinge on net run rate (NRR), either for the final spot between two teams or for two spots among four teams, mirroring KKR’s situation. Despite having two home games left, it’s worth noting that these matches will be played in Guwahati, not Jaipur, where they have a strong track record, winning four out of five matches.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)
Following an impressive victory against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), led by Pat Cummins, the team has asserted itself as one of the top contenders for winning the competition. SRH has two upcoming matches, both at home and against teams situated lower on the points table. The crucial win against LSG has significantly boosted SRH’s chances. With two more matches to play and the momentum they currently possess, SRH emerges as a formidable contender, posing a threat to all opponents in the playoffs.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK)
CSK finds themselves among the four teams battling in the mid-table with 12 points in the IPL 2024 season. However, they stand out as the only team among the four with a positive net run rate, which could prove to be a crucial advantage. Securing three wins will guarantee their qualification regardless of other results, but if they suffer a loss, the focus might shift to run rates, considering the possibility of six teams finishing with 16 or more points. The scenario at 14 points could be particularly chaotic, with up to six teams vying for two available spots.
Delhi Capitals (DC)
The Capitals find themselves among four teams currently at 12 points, but with the disadvantage of having played an extra game. This restricts their maximum possible points to 16, while the other teams at 12 can still aim for 18. If SRH and CSK secure victories in their remaining matches, there’s a possibility of four teams reaching 18 or more points, effectively shutting the Capitals out even if they finish on 16. Conversely, 14 points might suffice for qualification without necessitating a consideration of net run rate, provided other results align favorably.
Lucknow Super Gaints (LSG)
LSG currently hold the sixth position in the IPL 2024 points table with 12 points. Lucknow will be banking on winning their last two games and relying on favorable outcomes elsewhere. While they can potentially reach 16 points, losses will necessitate a consideration of Net Run Rate. Their remaining matches are against DC and Mumbai Indians. Notably, the match between DC and LSG will likely determine which of these two teams progresses further in the competition.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)
RCB currently holds the seventh position in the points table with 10 points. Bengaluru will be aiming to secure victories in all their remaining matches to reach 14 points and rely on favorable outcomes in other fixtures, while also hoping that their Net Run Rate is sufficient. Additionally, they will be dependent on results from other teams to ensure their chances of qualification. With the kind of form that the team it will be interesting to see how the results pan out for them. However, with their victory against Punjab Kings on May 9 the RCB team have kept their hopes alive.
Punjab Kings (PBKS)
Punjab Kings have three games remaining in the tournament. They are currently in the eighth spot in the points table. With two games, remaining against RR and SRH, it will be really tough for Men in Red to qualify for the Playoffs. Punjab will aim to win all their remaining matches, reaching a total of 12 points, and which will not be enough for booking the playoff berth. It will no wrong in saying that the tournament is virtually over for PBKS.
Mumbai Indians (MI)
MI currently occupies the ninth spot in the points table with 8 points. They are the only team officially eliminated from the tournament. Mumbai has won just four out of their 12 games so far, and even if they win their next two matches, they will only accumulate 12 points after suffering eight losses already.
Gujarat Titans (GT)
At the beginning of the tournament no one would have thought that GT would be suffering so much in the IPL 2024. Since, their inaugural season in 2024 this is the worst season so far for the Gujarat based franchise. GT will aim to secure victories in their remaining three matches, reaching a total of 14 points, and rely on favorable outcomes in other fixtures while hoping that their Net Run Rate is sufficient.
