IPL 2024: Top 4 Kolkata Knight Riders players to be in focus

Amidst the anticipation and excitement around the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) emerge as a team poised to change their fortunes on the cricket pitch. Led by the impeccable Shreyas Iyer, who returns from an injury that sidelined him in 2023, KKR are primed for a renaissance under former captain Gautam Gambhir, now the mentor. To strengthen their team and find a mix of experience and rising skills, KKR have built a competitive roster. So, here are the top four players to look at from the KKR’s roster.

Shreyas Iyer

Making a comeback with intent, as he missed out on the previous campaign due to injury, Shreyas Iyer’s leadership and batting skills will be critical to KKR’s. With extensive IPL experience, Iyer’s ability to anchor the innings and lead from the front will be essential to KKR’s success.

He is most known for improving the Indian batting squad’s middle order, so it is no surprise that he will do the same for the two-time winners. His leadership abilities will be critical in steering KKR through difficult situations on the pitch. Iyer has 2776 runs from 101 IPL matches, including 19 fifties.

Rinku Singh

Under normal conditions, middle and lower-order T20 cricket batters are unlikely to be among the competition’s leading run scorers. However, Rinku Singh‘s case is unusual. He comes in, scores, and runs at a swashbuckling speed with incredible consistency for a finisher.

The left-handed batsman had a fantastic IPL 2023 season; therefore, he was recruited into the Indian T201 team and gave results. Rinku played 14 games for Kolkata last season, scoring 474 runs with an average of 59.25 and a strike rate of 149.53. In a nail-biting finish, the 26-year-old is prominent for hammering Yash Dayal for five straight sixes to help KKR defeat the Gujarat Titans. Undoubtedly, the man is ready to show his power-hitting display and boost the team’s run-tally significantly.

Mitchell Starc

Mitchell Starc became the most expensive player in league history, signing a lucrative contract with the Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 24.75 crore. After collecting the large sum, Starc will work hard to justify his status on the squad.

The 34-year-old will be handed the job of leading the team’s speed assault. After a nine-year absence, the Australian quicks will return to the lucrative competition. Previously, he spent two seasons with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Regarding IPL bowling statistics, the legend has 34 wickets in 27 matches with an economy rate of 7.17.

Phil Salt

Phil Salt, a swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batsman from England, is 27 years old. In 216 T20 appearances, he has scored 5136 runs with a strike rate of 153. He has also scored two centuries and 32 half-centuries in these contests. He played with the Delhi Capitals in the 2023 edition but was released before the auctions.

Many were initially surprised since he went unsold in the edition’s December auctions conducted in Dubai. However, as a substitute for his buddy Jason Roy, the batter intends to use the lucrative tournament platform fully and display his batting prowess.
