Heading into the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash between the Gujarat Titans (GT) and the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Rashid Khan will face a massive battle against the explosive batting line-up of the 2016 champions.

Hyderabad is currently at the top of the points table with seven wins in 11 clashes at a net run rate of +1.103. They have been blessed with an aggressive batting line-up of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, while Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Reddy have taken care of their middle order’s batting.

SRH have crossed 200 eight times in IPL 2026- Rashid Khan’s 14 wickets are GT’s best chance of stopping them

Hyderabad started the event with a 200+ score against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium before smashing 226 runs at the Eden Gardens against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). In 11 innings, they have bagged eight 200+ scores, which is a brutal record in this ongoing competition.

SRH have the third-best strike rate of 150.99 in this campaign, having smacked 11856 runs in 66 innings at an average of 27.77, thanks to cracking 1014 boundaries and 614 sixes. In the middle overs (7-15), they have the second-best strike rate of 145.58 in 68 innings for 5238 runs in the ongoing edition.

However, they will be up against the strong bowling line-up of the Gujarat Titans. Kagiso Rabada leads the chart for the franchise with 18 wickets in 11 innings at an average of just 22 and an economy rate of 9.35. Rashid Khan is second on the list for the side, thanks to 15 scalps in 11 innings at an average of 22.60 and an economy rate of 8.26.

Head vs Abhishek vs Rashid in the powerplay- the tactical duel that could decide GT vs SRH Ahmedabad?

Rashid has a very weak record in T20s against Abhishek. The star Indian batter has clubbed 82 T20 runs in 36 balls at a strike rate of 227.80, besides being dismissed once at an average of 82, scoring four boundaries and seven sixes.

However, the Afghanistan spinner has a strong record against Travis Head, who has collected only 18 runs in 13 balls of the T20 format, besides being dismissed only once at a strike rate of 138.50. The potential battle in the power play will be interesting to see.

Klaasen has also been clinical against the leg spinner with 124 runs off 70 balls in the T20 format at a strike rate of 177.1, getting dismissed thrice in the shortest format. He has been superb with the bat in the middle overs of the next innings, and his performance against the leg spinner will be under the scanner.

Rashid's mystery spin against T20's aggressive openers in Ahmedabad

Rashid has overall collected 28 wickets in the IPL at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The veteran has an average of 34.50 in 29 innings at a strike rate of 22.50 and an economy rate of just over nine, with the best bowling figures of 3/37 in an innings.

GT captain, Shubman Gill, may look to introduce the spinner inside the powerplay to tackle the aggressive opening pair of Hyderabad. He has several types of balls in his bag, which he can use to get the better of the brutal line-up.

If Mohammed Siraj, who has 12 IPL wickets in 11 innings at an average of under 30 and an economy rate of 8.56 in this edition, fails to get the better of Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Klaasen, along with Rabada, the Rashid’s mystery will come into the equation. He will have a lot of responsibility on his shoulders to stop the middle order of the 2024 runners-up.
