Indian cricket fans filled social media platforms with their mixed feelings about Team India's squad for the Asia Cup 2025. The Ajit Agarkar-led selector panels left many proven talents out of the equation, for which a part of Indian cricket fans are not entirely happy after seeing the team. For the opening slot, BCCI chose Abhishek Sharma over Yashasvi Jaiswal. Shubman Gill was introduced in the line-up as the vice-captain to assist skipper Surya Kumar Yadav. Jaiswal and Gill are both young and highly talented, but he has performed so far better for Team India in T20Is. Let's derive.

Yashasvi Jaiswal' T20I career so far:

The highly talented batsman, only 23 years old, has already played 23 T20Is for Team India and scored 723 runs in total at an average of 36.15. After making his T20I debut in August 2023, the southpaw played multiple crucial games for the Men in Blue. Keeping an average around 36 after playing over twenty matches at the highest level proved his proficiency as a limited-overs batter. In his second T20I match, Jaiswal scored an unbeaten 84-run innings against the West Indies in 2023 and smashed a hundred in the same year against Nepal. Notably, Jaiswal played all of his T20Is during 2023 and 2024; in this year, so far, he has not gotten to play in a match in the format.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s last 5 T20I matches:

93* vs Zimbabwe, 2024

12 vs Zimbabwe, 2024

40 vs Sri Lanka, 2024

30 vs Sri Lanka, 2024

Shubman Gill's T20I career so far:

Gill, 25, has played fewer T20Is than Yashasvi Jaiswal to date. In 21 T20Is, the top-order batter, who is assigned as the vice-captain for the Asia Cup after getting the captaincy role of the Test side, scored 578 runs, at an average of 30.42, including the best score of an unbeaten 126. Like Jaiswal, Gill also made his international debut in the format in 2023. Despite thrashing a century, Shubman’s T20I career has remained underwhelming so far. Though his last 5 T20Is looked much more promising.

Shubman Gill’s last 5 T20I matches:

66 vs Zimbabwe, 2024
