South Africa has been a team with consistent form ever since the start of the 2024 T20 World Cup. Seven out of seven wins in the Group stage and Super-8 combined helped them seal the first spot in both levels of the tournament. They would be up against a resurgent and underdog team, Afghanistan. The team has been a nightmare for various batters. It would be interesting to watch both the teams up against each other, who are prominent for having formidable bowling attacks in this T20 WC edition.

Having won their first and only ICC event (Champions Trophy) in 1998, the Proteas are eager to change their fortunes and be a strong contender for this tournament win. With that said, here is the robust probable XI and three players to checkout from Proteas side against Afghanistan in the semi-final of the 2024 T20 World Cup.

South Africa’s strongest Probable XI vs Afghanistan:

Reeza Hendricks

Quinton de Kock (Wicketkeeper)

Heinrich Klaasen

David Miller

Aiden Markram (Captain)

Tristan Stubbs

Marco Jansen

Tabriaz Shamshi

Kagiso Rabada

Anrich Nortje

Ottneil Baartman

Top three key players to checkout from South Africa:

Quinton de Kock

Quinton de Kock has been in fine class with the bat in the ongoing edition of the T20 World Cup. Including keeping the whole innings, his calibre of hitting shots through his left-hand stance has provided a robust start to the team’s batting unit. By winning two man-of-the-match titles, the keeper batter has been one of the leading run scorers of the tournament. Also, he is the highest run scorer for the team’s league run. In his seven-matches run, he has scored 199 runs at a commendable strike rate and an average of 148.50 & 28, respectively.

Anrich Nortje

Anrich Nortje’s performance in the recent IPL edition stirred scepticism amongst fanatics regarding his performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup. But Nortje proved it wrong and was immaculate with his pace and delivery of the cork ball. He has helped the team scalp some crucial wickets in the ongoing league. No wonder he’s amongst the top-5 best bowlers of the whole format. He started his top performance with a brilliant 4/7 figure against Sri Lanka. The Proteas pacer was unstoppable and synonymous with quick and fast deliveries. He gave a big toll of nightmare for the batters. He has taken 11 wickets in seven matches at an economy of 6.00, making him the tournament’s highest wicket-taker from the South African side.

Tabriaz Shamshi

Tabriaz Shamshi has had a brilliant run as a spinmeister for the team. Though he had a short appearance in the Group stage and Super-8, his unorthodox spin bowling has helped him scalp some major wickets in bulk. In the process, he obtained one of the best bowling figures and won a few man-of-the-match titles. In his mere three-match stint, he has scalped a colossal eight wickets at a decent economy of 8 per over. He can be a handy spin option for their semi-final clash against Afghanistan at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy Stadium, Trinidad and Tobago.
