Bowling has always been a tough job in India, with the batters smashing the big shots on the flat surfaces around the park. That is where the bowlers need to come with different skills and planning to focus the batters with variations. The second round of the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2025/26 wasn’t any different either.
Some of the big names, including Ishant Sharma, Mohammad Shami, and Ravi Bishnoi, took part in the second round of the event. But the youngsters have shared the stage with their powerful performances with the ball in the second round of the competition.
A look at the top 5 bowling performances from Day 2 of VHT 2025/26
1. Rajesh Mohanty (Odisha)

The right-arm pacer of Odisha, Rajesh Mohanty, becomes the first bowler of the side to celebrate a hat-trick in List-A cricket during the second round of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Against services, he ended with a fine figure of three for 25 in nine overs at an economy rate of under three with the help of two maidens.
In the fourth over of his spell, which was the seventh over of the innings, in the first three balls of the over, Rajesh dismissed opening batter Sagar Dahiya, Amit Shukla, and Ravi Chauhan to complete his hat trick. The first batter was bowled while the last two were dismissed for ducks, trapped leg before the stumps. Odisha completed the victory by four wickets in the chase of 84 runs.
Brief Scores: Odisha 84/6 (Sandeep Pattnaik 32*, Poonam Poonia 4/27) beat Services 83 (Poonia 25, Sambit S Baral 4/21) by four wickets.
2. Rajvardhan Hangargekar (Maharashtra)

Rajvardhan Hangarekar, who played the 2023 season of the Indian Premier League for the Chennai Super Kings, came through the ranks from the 2022 Under-19 for India. He has the skill to swing the new ball in both ways and pick up early wickets to help his side. Playing for Maharashtra in VHT 2025/26, he used the trick against Sikkim in Jaipur.
Hangargekar ended with four wickets for 21 runs in 7.2 overs at an economy rate of under three to bundle out the opposition for 150 in 40.2 overs in the first innings. His bowling set the stage for Maharashtra, who completed the chase of 153 runs in just 18 overs, thanks to some brutal hitting from their top 4.
Brief Scores: Maharashtra 153/2 (Prithvi Shaw 51, Lee Lepcha 1/20) beat Sikkim 150 (Kranthi Kumar 40, Rajvardhan Hangargekar 4/21) by eight wickets.
3. Raj Limbani (Baroda)

Baroda has already offered India a sensational pace bowling all-rounder in the form of Hardik Pandya. Raj Limbhani is another such breed who, even though he came through the ranks from the 2022 Under-19 batch of the Indian side as an all-rounder, has shifted his base as a pure pacer for the domestic side.

4. Murugan Ashwin (Jammu and Kashmir)

Murugan Ashwin first made his impression in the Indian Premier League for the Rising Pune Super Giants in 2016. Later, he did not get many chances for the Tamil Nadu State side, which pushed him to change his base to Jammu and Kashmir. In the second round of the VHT, he appeared against Assam.
The chase of 342 runs was critical for Assam, which ended up getting bundled out for 199 runs. Murugan picked up five wickets for 34 runs in nine overs at an economic rate of under 4. Four of the five wickets came against the middle order of the Assam side, which put them on the backfoot.
Brief Scores: Jammu and Kashmir 341/7 (Yawer Hassan 138, Qamran Iqbal 55, Denish das 2/46) beat Assam 199 (Sumit Ghadigaonkar 53. Murugan Ashwin 5/34) by 142 runs.
5. Shuham Singh (Jharkhand)

Shubham Singh did not have a great experience in the domestic format for Jharkhand. The Odisha-born was playing just his fourth List-A contest in the second round of the VHT 2025/26 against Rajasthan. To defend their score of 302 runs on a good surface at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Jharkhand needed a special bowling performance.
Shivam provided them the magic with six wickets in his 10-over spell at an economy rate of five, besides one maiden over in the second innings. That helped Jharkhand bundle out Rajasthan for two to 8 in the second innings and complete a victory by 73 runs.
Brief Scores: Jharkhand 301 (Shikhar Mohan 129, Anukul Roy 52, Khaleel Ahmed 4/49) beat Rajasthan 228 (Karam Lamba 102, Shubham Singh 6/50) by 73 runs.
