West Indies thrash Nepal by 9 wickets in T20 World Cup 2026 Group C clash
West Indies defeated Nepal by nine wickets in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Group C match. Jason Holder starred with four wickets, while Shai Hope’s unbeaten 61 guided a comfortable chase in 15.2 overs

West Indies registered a commanding nine-wicket victory over Nepal in the 25th Match of Group C at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Nepal made 133 runs for loss of 8 wickets from their 20 overs, scoring six and a half runs per over (average). There were some good individual performances, but generally speaking, no consistent momentum was created through the innings due to the effectiveness and discipline of the West Indies bowlers. The West Indies bowlers created regular breakthroughs to prevent Nepal from forming any partnerships, and restricting the score on a good batting surface.
Besides Dipendra Singh Airee (58 runs; 47 balls; 3 fours and 3 sixes), the rest of the Nepal batting line up lacked the ability to make a significant contribution, although Sompal Kami provided some acceleration at the end of the innings with 26 runs from 15 balls to complete the innings. The best bowler for the West Indies was Jason Holder (4 wickets) although Matthew Forde, Akeal Hosein, Shamar Joseph and Roston Chase played an important role in maintaining pressure during the middle overs of the Nepal innings.
Early wickets dented Nepal’s progress, as Kushal Bhurtel and Rohit Paudel departed cheaply. Aasif Sheikh and Aarif Sheikh also failed to capitalize on their starts. The middle overs saw Airee attempt to rebuild, stitching together useful stands, but consistent strikes from the West Indian bowlers halted any acceleration. Nepal managed only 22 runs in the powerplay, setting the tone for a below-par total against a strong Caribbean side.
West Indies cruise in chase
In response, the West Indies reached the 134-run mark relatively easily when they finished on 134 for 1 after 15.2 overs, achieving a run rate of 8.74 runs per over. Despite the loss of Brandon King during the sixth over for 22, Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer took full control of the chase as they put together a partnership of 91 for the second wicket without a dismissal, steadily dismantling the Nepal bowling unit via a combination of caution and aggression.
Shai Hope scored an impressive 61 runs off 44 balls, while Shimron Hetmyer contributed with 46 no out from 32 balls. Throughout the innings, the Nepal bowlers struggled to contain the run-scoring, having been expensive by all members of the Nepal bowling unit including Sandeep Lamichhane. At most, Nandan Yadav was able to claim one wicket, but there was little to be excited about for Nepal on the field. This convincing victory of the West Indies continues their run as the dominant team in Group C.
Top Performers
Jason Holder starred with the ball for West Indies, finishing with four crucial wickets to derail Nepal’s batting momentum. Dipendra Singh Airee was Nepal’s standout performer, scoring a fighting 58 off 47 balls to hold the innings together. With the bat, Shai Hope led the chase brilliantly with an unbeaten 61, anchoring the innings with composure and authority. Shimron Hetmyer complemented him perfectly, smashing 46 not out to ensure a comfortable nine-wicket victory for the Caribbean side.
Key Moments
Nepal’s slow powerplay, managing just 22 runs in the first six overs, set the tone for their below-par total. Holder’s middle-overs burst further dented their hopes of acceleration. In the chase, Brandon King’s early dismissal briefly raised optimism for Nepal, but the unbroken 91-run stand between Shai Hope and Hetmyer decisively shifted the momentum, sealing the contest well before the final overs.
