Former Mizoram Ranji Trophy cricketer K Lalremruata tragically passed away after collapsing on the field during a local cricket match on Thursday. The 38-year-old complained of chest pain while returning to the pavilion after batting and could not be revived despite immediate efforts.
The incident occurred during the Khaled Memorial Second Division Screening Tournament, a local competition being held at the Suaka cricket ground near Sairang railway station, close to Aizawl. Lalremruata was representing Venghnuai Raiders Cricket Club (VRCC) in a match against Chawnpui ILMOV Cricket Club.
According to officials and eyewitnesses, the cricketer experienced discomfort after completing his batting and complained of chest pain while walking back to the pavilion. Moments later, he collapsed on the ground and lost consciousness. Despite getting medical assistance, he could not be revived and was later declared dead.
Cricketer Rushed to Hospital, State Cricket Body Confirms Cause of Death
He was immediately attended to and rushed to a hospital for treatment. However, doctors were unable to revive him, and he was declared dead. Lalremruata was a former Ranji Trophy cricketer who represented Mizoram in two first-class matches and seven T20 games. Even after his state-level career, he continued to play actively in local tournaments. A wicketkeeper-batter, he scored 17 runs in first-class cricket and 87 runs in T20 matches during his career.
The Cricket Association of Mizoram (CAM) confirmed in an official statement that the 38-year-old passed away due to a stroke while participating in the second division tournament. The association noted that he had represented Mizoram in the Ranji Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and had also played for several local clubs. CAM expressed its condolences to his family and prayed for strength during this difficult time.
Mizoram’s Sports and Youth Services Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar also expressed grief over Lalremruata’s passing. He stated that the cricketer experienced breathing difficulties during the match between Venghnuai Raiders Cricket Club and Chawnpui ILMOV Cricket Club. The minister extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and members of the sporting community.
Lalremruata remained closely associated with local cricket throughout his life, representing multiple clubs over the years and making a significant contribution to the sport's growth at the grassroots level in Mizoram.
