India beat the West Indies easily by an innings and 140 runs in the first Test at Ahmedabad. The hosts finished the game on the third day after lunch.

They started their home season with a big win. It was a special moment for Shubman Gill in his first Test as captain at home. India declared at 448/5 overnight, and the West Indies came out to bat for the second time.

The visitors could not bat for long. They were all out for 146 runs in 45.1 overs. Ravindra Jadeja took four wickets, Mohammed Siraj took three, and Kuldeep Yadav took two important wickets. Here are four records and milestones made by India on day three of the first Test against the West Indies.

4. Best match figures for Mohammed Siraj in a home Test

Pacer Mohammed Siraj gave his best performance in a home Test. He took three wickets on day three, adding to his total for the game. He had figures of 4/40 in the first innings and 3/31 in the second, finishing the match with 7/71. His previous best at home was 4/100 against England at Rajkot in 2024.

3. Second-most times scoring a century and taking four or more wickets in the same Test

Ravindra Jadeja had a strong all-round game against the West Indies. He scored an unbeaten 104 runs in the first innings and took 4/54 in the second innings. He became the second Indian to score a century and take four or more wickets in the same Test four times. Only Sir Ian Botham has done it more, five times.

2. Joint second-most wins in international cricket (all formats)

With this win, India reached 921 wins in international cricket across formats. This is the second-most wins for any team. England also have 921 wins from 2117 matches. Australia leads with 1157 wins from 2107 matches.

1. Third Indian captain to win debut Test at home by an innings

Shubman Gill had a brilliant start as Test captain at home. India won by an innings and 140 runs. He became only the third Indian captain to win his first home Test by an innings. Mohammad Azharuddin was first in 1990, and Rohit Sharma was second in 2022.
