A bi-lateral India-Pakistan series? BCCI president Sourav Ganguly makes a big announcement

There is no denying that a cricket match between India and Pakistan grabs most of the sporting attention, but the two countries have not competed in a bilateral series in the last 9 years. Last time India and Pakistan played a bilateral series was in 2012, when the Pakistani cricket team visited India to play a series.

But India and Pakistan continue to play in ICC World events. India and Pakistan met last in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE, which was without doubt the most watched match of the tournament.

Sourav Ganguly, BCCI president, made a major announcement on Saturday (November 13) concerning the resumption of the bilateral India-Pakistan series, in front of millions of fans from both countries.

In world events, the two teams do play each other. Bilateral cricket has been suspended for years and it can be revived by governments throughout the world. This is outside the control of Rameez or myself,” Ganguly said during the 40th Sharjah International Book Fair.

Ramiz Raja, chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, had previously said it is impossible to hold a series between India and Pakistan due to the prevailing political situation. If all goes well, it will be fascinating to see the duo teams face off once more following the ICC World Cup.
