Bengal captain and opener Abhimanyu Easwaran suffered an awkward run out on the opening day of the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 match against Services.

After Services chose to field first, Bengal had a strong start with a 150+ partnership for the opening wicket. Openers Abhimanyu Easwaran and Sudip Chatterjee had a 151-run partnership for the first wicket.

Abhimanyu Easwaran was dismissed when he was walking for drinks

The Bengal skipper Abhimanyu Easwaran was batting superbly as he scored 81 off 152 balls with nine fours and one six. His bizarre dismissal happened after the final ball of the 41st over. While Aditya Kumar was bowling, Sudip Chatterjee was batting, and he played a straight shot to the bowler.

Assuming the over ended,  Abhimanyu left the crease and was walking forward towards the pavilion for drinks. Meanwhile, the ball hit the bowler's fingers and hit the non-striker's end wickets. Services players appealed for that, and the Bengal skipper bizarrely lost his wicket.

It was entirely my fault: Abhimanyu Easwaran

While Abhimanyu had no intention of stealing the run, the Bengal skipper also admitted his mistake and felt that there was no question about the spirit of the game.

At the end of the day, the Bengal captain said, "The innings was going very well, but the mistake I made surprised even me. Some might feel the opposition could've called me back in the spirit of the game, but there was no question of that. It was entirely my fault. I thought the bowler had collected the ball and instinctively moved forward."

Meanwhile, Sudip Chatterjee remained not out for 140 off 226 balls with 12 fours and one six, as Bengal pilled up 340/4 at the stumps of the first day.

Despite maintaining his strong form in domestic cricket, the 30-year-old Abhimanyu Easwaran is still waiting for his first opportunity to serve for the Indian national cricket team.
