Delhi Capitals' Abishek Porel ordered to be arrested by Calcutta High Court

The Calcutta High Court has ordered the arrest of the India and Delhi Capitals (DC) batter, Abishek Porel, and another accused in connection with allegations of rape and blackmail, which involve a medical student, and the court directed the authority to immediately seize all the electronic devices in the possession of the accused.

The decision has been taken against Porel to prevent the alleged circulation of the victim’s private photographs. The Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya issued the order, directing the Mogra police to arrest the accused.

Porel recently played for the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Notably, no lawyer appeared on behalf of the accused during the hearing.

The complaint’s lawyers, Randev Sengupta and Akash Gangopadhyay, revealed that the failure to recover the electronic devices poses a serious risk of the intimate images being further circulated. They also alleged that Porel had trapped several other girls in romantic relations in the same manner.

It has been claimed that Porel secretly obtained the women’s private photographs and later blackmailed them on that. The evidence related to the allegations had been presented before the court. It directed the investigating agency to submit a detailed report by August 11, as all the steps taken to comply with its order will be outlined.

It should also be noted that these are allegations currently before the court as the case remains under investigation, and no one has been found guilty against the accused.

The complaint was submitted jointly by the woman and her mother at Mogra Police Station, as the woman lodged the police complaint accusing him of maintaining a physical relationship on the promise of marriage and later refusing to fulfil that commitment. The complaint also contains allegations of assault and criminal intimidation.

It was claimed that the woman and Porel had been in a relationship for the last three years. She alleged that the problems began between them last year when the left-handed Indian batter started to create distance with her.

She also accused the 23-year-old of engaging in sexual relations with her under the assurance of marriage. In addition to that, the woman also said that she was subjected to assault and criminal intimidation.

“I am playing well now, so various things are coming up. I will talk about this when the police investigate. I have not spoken to the police yet.” The Bengal player stated this in the past on the news.

The next hearing on the case will be on August 11.
