Young India opener Abhishek Sharma is in great form in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. After scoring 148 against Bengal and 50 against Baroda, he added 34 more against Puducherry in Punjab’s 54-run win. However, he looked unhappy because he could not convert the start. He corrected that in style in the match against Services, smashing 62 off 34 balls to give Punjab a strong start in Hyderabad.

During this knock, Abhishek hit three sixes, becoming the first Indian cricketer to smash 100 or more T20 sixes in a single calendar year. The 25-year-old also broke his own record of 87 sixes set in 2024. In 2025, he reached a new milestone by hitting 100 sixes in a year.

Notably, Abhishek has hit 47 sixes in international cricket in 2025. The remaining 53 came in the IPL and the ongoing SMAT. With the upcoming five-match T20I series against South Africa starting on December 9 in Cuttack, the left-hander is expected to increase this number even more.

Abhishek’s Dominant Run in 2025

Abhishek has been a strong performer ever since he made his India debut in the shorter format. In 2025, he played 17 games and scored 756 runs at a strike rate of 196.36. He has been outstanding and has become an important player for India in a very short time. The Punjab batter also played a key role in India’s Asia Cup win earlier this year. Now, he will look to perform well in the upcoming T20 World Cup in February.

His form in the SMAT will give him more confidence for the series against South Africa. If he does well in familiar conditions, it will boost his confidence even more. This is important for a player like him because he plays an aggressive style of cricket.
