Shardul Thakur delighted his fans with his marvellous performance against England on Day 1 of the 4th test at The Oval. His master class batting spirit led team India ending with a score of 191 in the first innings where Shardul ended up hitting 57 from just 36 balls.
On asked about being compared to Ian Botham’s record at the press conference, Shardul said that he was not aware of breaking the legend’s record. Shardul added, “But I’m glad that I scored important runs for my team. My teammates have been teasing me with his name. I feel honoured to be compared with great names like this”.
The all-rounder was able to break Ian Botham’s record for the fastest Test fifty in England in the 4th test at The Oval. Shardul’s counter-attacking two half-centuries have lifted him to 79th position in the batting order and 49th in the bowlers’ list after his bashing performance at the Oval. Although he was not rewarded as Man of the Match, Shardul Thakur’s immense contribution was no less important, making way for team India’s victory.
Despite making gains at ICC test player rankings, BCCI included him in the standbys squad for the ICC World Cup T20 2021 leaving fans in disbelief. Whether Shardul remains in the standbys list or be among the 11 Men in Blue will be seen in a matter of time!
