Shreyas Iyer made a strong comeback with the Mumbai cricket team in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 (VHT 2025-26). On January 6, 2026, he played an 82-run innings for Mumbai against Himachal Pradesh. The innings proved crucial for the match, as Mumbai won it by only a 7-run margin.

Ahead of the India vs. New Zealand limited-overs series, Indian cricket fans were eagerly waiting to see Iyer back in action. BCCI selectors named the batter in the ODI squad, but that was subject to his fitness. During the Mumbai vs Himachal Pradesh match, Iyer, who picked up a serious rib injury, looked fine while performing throughout the match yesterday. Apart from his confident batting, he guided the team for a crucial win as their captain.

Last time, he featured for Team India during the multi-format away series against Australia, where he was the vice-captain of the ODI team. Multiple photos and videos of Iyer's batting for the Mumbai match were shared by his fans on social media platforms. One of the videos captured the notable shots played by the batter against Himachal Pradesh.

During his decisive 82-run innings in Jaipur, the middle-order batter smashed ten boundaries and three over-boundaries. Iyer showed his all-round batting display by playing those elegant, well-controlled shots. After the fine batting, fans are hopeful to see him in action during the New Zealand ODI series. Himachal Pradesh, despite showing their fighting spirit, managed to claim 292 against all of their 10 wickets. Shivam Dube's 4-wicket haul was crucial in the second innings. Though, it was Musheer Khan who was named best performer of the game for 73 (51) and 1/47.
