In a stunning development that has electrified the cricketing world, Australian legend Alyssa Healy has reportedly reversed her international retirement and is poised to feature in the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in England and Wales. Sources close to Cricket Australia suggest that after deliberations with team management and a renewed assessment of her fitness and form, the iconic wicket‑keeper batter has been persuaded to return to the national fold for the marquee tournament.

Healy, whose initial retirement announcement in January 2026 marked the end of an era in women’s cricket, is understood to have been in discussions with Australia’s selectors over recent weeks about the possibility of rejoining the squad. Insiders say her experience and leadership are regarded as invaluable assets as Australia seeks to defend its position as one of the favourites for the T20 World Cup crown. The move, if confirmed, would see her re‑ignite her glittering career on one of the sport’s biggest stages.

Many fans and players are happy about the news. Social media is full of messages about her return. Cricket experts say this is a big surprise. Alyssa Healy will now play again and try to help Australia win the World Cup. Although Cricket Australia (CA) has not made any official statement regarding the legendary cricketer.

Alyssa Healy Announced Shocking Retirement from Australia Women’s Cricket

Earlier, on January 13, 2026, the former captain of the Australian women’s cricket team said she would retire from international cricket. She said the upcoming home series against India will be her last after playing for 16 years.

The 35-year-old spoke about her decision on the Willow Talk podcast, where she often appears. Healy said she had been thinking about retiring for many months. She felt her competitive drive was slowly going after many years at the top level.

The legendary Australian women's wicketkeeper-batter said, “It is with mixed feelings that the India series will be my last for Australia. I still love playing for Australia, but I don’t feel the same drive I had before, so now is the right time to stop.”

Healy also talked about how playing at a high level has been hard on her mind and body. “The last few years have been very tiring mentally. I have had injuries, and it is harder to keep giving 100% when my energy is not what it used to be,” she said.
