IPL 2026 started with the match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Saturday night (March 28) at Bengaluru. After an early batting collapse, stand-in SRH skipper Ishan Kishan played a powerful knock to rescue the team along with Heinrich Klaasen, while Aniket Verma stunned with his strong cameo at the end of the innings.
Defending champions RCB got a perfect start in the IPL 2026 season, as SRH were struggling at 29/3 inside the powerplay. Forget about a minimum score of 200 runs; 150 or 100 runs were far from the IPL 2016 champions at that stage. Finally, the stand-in captain Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen ultimately controlled the innings with the 97-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
On his IPL captaincy debut, Ishan scored 80 off 38 balls with eight fours and five sixes. Meanwhile, Klaasen scored 31 off 22 balls before losing his wicket. Struggling at 155/6 while the SRH stand-in captain was dismissed, Aniket Verma produced a stunning knock.

Aniket Verma’s massive six becomes highlight of Match 1
The 24-year-old Aniket Verma, the third-most sixes hitter for SRH last season, scored 43 off just 18 balls, which massively helped SRH to score 200+ runs. Thanks to his cameo with three fours and four powerful sixes, SRH managed to score 201/9 in 20 overs.
In the 19th over of the innings, Aniket smashed six, four, and six to Romario Shepherd on the second, third, and fourth balls, respectively. The first six of that series covered a 100-meter distance to stun everyone.
RCB vs SRH opener delivers early fireworks in IPL 2026
IPL 2026 opener between RCB and SRH in Bengaluru delivered strong fireworks. Starting with Jacob Duffy's strong IPL debut for RCB, Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen's brilliant partnership set up a comeback for SRH.
