Australia women’s vice-captain, Ashleigh Gardner, has found herself under scrutiny as her estranged wife, Monica Wright, has criticized Cricket Australia over the board’s handling of allegations surrounding the player’s personal life. Wright made allegations about Gardner last month and has now raised her voice on CA not taking any stance.
Wright has called on CA to remove Gardner from the leadership position. She is currently featuring in the Women’s Hundred for the Trent Rockets Women and picked up four wickets during the contest against the Manchester Super Giants Women.

The controversies have been raised regarding Gardner and fellow player of the Australian side, Georgia Voll, as she argued that the alleged conduct should have consequences for the leadership role of Gardner.
“I think if you’re privileged enough to represent your country and be seen as a role model, there’s a responsibility to hold yourself to a high moral standard. What I can’t understand is why Cricket Australia hasn’t said anything publicly.” Wright expressed on Code Sports.

“Does their silence mean they support the actions of Ashleigh and Georgia? You can’t have an affair with a junior member of staff, especially when there’s a clear power imbalance, and then remain in a position of leadership. Captains are expected to set the standard, and that kind of conduct falls well short of it.” She revealed.
Cricket Australia, meanwhile, has responded to Wright’s comments by maintaining that the matter has been a private and personal issue.
“Cricket Australia ensures all relationships within our workforce comply with our Respect at Work policy. This includes putting appropriate conflict-of-interest management arrangements in place to support leadership responsibilities and maintain the integrity of team processes.” The board stated.
