Ashwin is 'not' an all-time great, says Rashid Latif

As a result, India won the first Test of the series by an innings and 222 runs over Sri Lanka in Mohali. Several key milestones took place during the match; Virat Kohli made his 100th Test appearance, and Rohit Sharma was named full-time captain for the first time. Ravichandran Ashwin, India’s premier off-spinner, also achieved a major feat during the match.

Ashwin became the second-highest wicket-taker for India in Test cricket behind Kapil Dev (434 wickets). The 35-year-old spinner is one of only two bowlers who have taken more wickets than Anil Kumble (619). Rohit Sharma called Ashwin an “all-time great” following the victory over Sri Lanka. ”I believe Ashwin is one of the best bowlers in the world. In his bowling, he has brought variety to the game. Ashwin is India’s best spinner when using the SG ball in home conditions. Even so, I would disagree with him (Rohit) in a sense. The performance by Kumble was excellent. I am also impressed by Jadeja’s performance. Bishan Singh Bedi used to be brilliant as well, stated Latif on his official YouTube channel.

”No doubt, if we talk only about India, he is good. I guess Rohit probably had a slip of the tongue. Maybe it’s a way to motivate the players,” concluded Latif.
