Wanindu Hasaranga could have easily added another wicket to his tally if the bail response had been its usual way. The ball hit the stumps, but the bail remained still as a rock. The blinking red light in the wicket was the signal that the ball hit it properly, with enough force. But it was Hasaranga's misfortune and Jaker Ali's fine luck.

Sri Lanka started off their Asia Cup 2025 campaign with a solid win against Bangladesh. Bangladesh, who began their campaign with a controlled win over Hong Kong, China, found themselves in deep trouble within the very first two overs of the match, as Sri Lankan pacers produced back-to-back two-maiden-wicket overs. After 2 overs of the first innings, Bangladesh was 0 for 2. From there, they somehow got a total of 139 runs on their scorecard, thanks to Jaker Ali's talent and lucky innings.

In the total of 139 runs, Ali added 41 runs in 34 balls with only 2 boundaries. Interestingly, he remained not out after the lucky escape against Hasaranga. Ali and Shamim Hossain (42) stitched an 86 off 61 partnership together to deliver their team a respectable total. Though that was not enough to prevent Sri Lanka from registering their first win of the tournament.

Hasaranga hit the stumps, but a lucky escape for Bangladeshi batter

Sri Lanka chased down the target in the 15th over of the second innings with 6 wickets in hand. Pathum Nissanka's stable 50-run knock off 34 balls provided Sri Lanka solidity in the beginning of their innings. Number three batter Kamil Mishara's unbeaten 46 ensured their win against the archrival.

Hasaranga in the match took a couple wickets in the match. During the second ball of the 10th over of the first innings, a movie ball from the spinner sneaked past between Ali's bat and pad and went straight to the wicket. The red lights in the stumps started to blink, and Hasaranga was about to begin the celebration. But then he suddenly realized that the bails did not go down. Ali was then batting on only 5 runs and ended with an unbeaten 41. Though, the Bangladesh cricket team was not as lucky as Ali.
