Axar Patel provided India an early breakthrough by dismissing Finn Allen for 9 runs as New Zealand began their chase of 256 in the T20 World Cup 2026 final.

India scored a huge total in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Final match held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. After being asked to bat first, the Men in Blue finished their innings with a huge score of 255/5. The crowd at the stadium created an electrifying atmosphere. Fans are hoping India can defend the total and lift the trophy.
India scored a huge total due to the excellent batting display by the Indian top order batsmen. Sanju Samson led the batting display with a fantastic innings of 89 runs. Abhishek Sharma also contributed with a quickfire 52 runs, and Ishan Kishan also showed good batting skills with a quickfire 54 runs.
Though the Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav got out on a golden duck, the team kept the momentum going with the bat. Shivam Dube completed the task with an unbeaten 26 runs, helping the team score a huge total. New Zealand had to score more than 12 runs per over to achieve the target against India.
Finn Allen Falls as Axar Patel Strikes Early
The first wicket for India came in the third over when Finn Allen was dismissed for 9 runs from 7 balls. Allen had just changed his bat before the delivery. However, the change did not bring him any luck during the chase.
Axar Patel bowled a shorter delivery that angled toward the stumps. Allen tried to pull the ball over long-on but failed to connect properly. The shot went off the toe end of the bat and did not travel far. Tilak Varma calmly completed the catch using a reverse cup, sending Allen back to the pavilion.

The match then took a tense turn as New Zealand attempted to recover from the two wickets lost at the start. After the completion of 3.1 overs, New Zealand’s score was 32/2, with Rachin Ravindra being dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah. The required run rate continued to rise towards the mark of 14 runs per over, which put more pressure on the New Zealand batting line-up, while the Indian bowlers continued to control the game.
As of writing, New Zealand are 47/3 after 4.5 overs while chasing 256 in the T20 World Cup 2026 final, with Tim Seifert on 31 (15) at the crease as Axar Patel leads India’s bowling with figures of 2/18.
