India has not been a great fielding side in the ongoing Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign. But on a day when they needed everything to go their way, fielding also fell into place as they grabbed some excellent catches to put England under immense pressure. And Axar Patel’s sensational catch got them the biggest wicket of the opposition captain, Harry Brook.

On the very first ball of the fifth over, Jasprit Bumrah ran in and foxed Brook with a slower delivery. He rolled his fingers across the seam and completely puzzled the right-handed batter, who backed away and was through the shot early as the bottom hand came off and the ball lobbed over the cover region.

Axar Patel was at the extra cover region and started to run back. He kept his eyes on the ball and dived forward to grab it. For a moment, it felt like he had gone away from the catch, but he stayed down for a while and allowed his teammates to celebrate wildly as Brook was dismissed for seven runs.

Earlier in the chase, England lost Phil Salt on the very first ball of the second ball as his aerial shot ended in the safe hands of Axar, who settled down at this spot before the ball died into his hands. Jacob Bettel came up with an aggressive approach.

Bethell smashed Varun Chakravarthy for three successive sixes before the leg spinner dismissed Jos Buttler for 25 runs in 17 balls with the help of four boundaries and one six. Even Tom Banton also reverse-swept his first ball for a boundary.

India posted a huge score of 253 runs for the loss of seven wickets as their in-form opener, Sanju Samson, nailed 89 runs in 42 balls with the help of eight boundaries and seven sixes at a strike rate of 211.9. Shivam Dube, Tilak Varma, Ishan Kishan, and Hardik Pandya also contributed equally with the bat.

Brief Scores: IND 253/7 (Sanju Samson 89, Shivam Dube 43, Will Jacks 2/40) vs ENG 112/4 (Jacob Bethell 48*, Jasprit Bumrah 1/7)
