Bangladesh Govt to consult ICC as BCB faces multiple investigation: Know Full Story
Bangladesh government plans to consult the ICC as BCB faces multiple investigations. Here’s everything you need to know about the ongoing controversy.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is under scrutiny after the completion of the T20 World Cup 2026, as the government is set to intervene in the internal matters. State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque confirmed that since there are other issues within the board that need to be taken care of, the government will intervene and look into the matters.
Meanwhile, on March 11, the sports ministry also went ahead and set up a committee to check the internal discrepancies that have been going on for a while. Haque mentioned that when the board members were elected, the previous government played an active role in the BCB's formation, and there have been allegations from several club members.
Why Bangladesh Cricket Board is under investigation
When the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) was formed last year, the interference of the previous government was inevitable. This led to several complaints against the board members and the partiality towards the clubs and players. There have been inconsistent nominations as well. Hence, two different committees are being set up by the sports ministry. One committee will focus on the board and its matters, while the other one will investigate the reason behind the team's non-participation in the T20 World Cup 2026.
"I have already spoken about these issues—why we could not participate in World Cup cricket and where exactly our shortcomings in sports diplomacy lie. These are matters we must thoroughly examine. In my view, we need to further strengthen our sports diplomacy because sports is a platform where, beyond divisions and political ideologies, we can unite as a nation. We must ensure such mistakes are not repeated," said State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque.

What Bangladesh Govt said about consulting the International Cricket Council
Aminul Haque spoke about speaking to the International Cricket Council (ICC) after the reports of the probe come out. He specifically mentioned that he will go through the report thoroughly and then speak to the ICC. However, his next step will come only after that. BCB reacted differently when BCCI asked KKR to drop Mustafizur Rehman from the squad after the communal parties threatened them.
BCB, taking a stand for the players' safety, urged ICC to change the World Cup venue from India to Sri Lanka. However, it was on short notice, and ICC denied the request. Hence, BCB decided not to respond to the Apex Board despite getting a timeline of a day. Following that, ICC replaced them with Scotland.
“We are all aware of direct interference from our previous government in the BCB elections last year. I have spoken about it on a number of occasions. Following allegations from Dhaka clubs and the districts, we have formed an investigation committee. I will read their report, but my next step will come after I have spoken to the ICC," Haque was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.
Possible impact on Bangladesh Cricket Board and international cricket future
The ICC can take harsh steps against BCB if the government intervention happens, just like they did with the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) in 2023. ICC suspended SLC on November 10, 2023, due to severe government interference in its administration. The ban followed the Sports Minister's sacking of the SLC board, prompting the ICC to cite a breach of obligations regarding autonomy. The suspension was lifted in January 2024, allowing SL to play.
ICC did allow the national team to play in international matches, but the board was suspended for almost a year. The same could happen with BCB if the government tries to intervene much in the matters of the board.
