Bangladesh seeks improved bilateral ties with BCCI ahead of home series vs India
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has oped for an improved bilateral relations with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCi) ahead of the home series against India, which is expected to happen in September this year.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) faced a massive damage after being absent from the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka due to the relationship with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for which they refused to travel to the country after the Indian board tore the contract of Mustafizur Rahman in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.
However, they have a scheduled home series of three ODIs and as many T20Is against India, which was actually going to take place last year, but that couldn’t happen due to the political situation. But they hope to see the upcoming series go smoothly.
Bangladesh Cricket Board looks to strengthen cricketing relations with BCCI
Bangladesh’s newly appointed State Minister for Youth and Sports, Aminul Haque, has indicated that he has been keen to reset the ties between the BCB and the BCCI and resolve their issues quickly following the events that led to their withdrawal from the T20 WC 2026.
“After taking the oath today, I met the Deputy High Commissioner of India at the Parliament building. I discussed the T20 World Cup with him. It was a cordial conversation. I told him that we want to resolve this issue quickly through discussions because we want to maintain friendly relations with all our neighboring countries.” Haque expressed after the new cabinet was sworn in, following the general elections.
Bangladesh’s sports advisor, Asif Nazrul, criticizes both the players and the board for their team’s absence from the competition, as Haque clarified the diplomatic issue was at the heart of the matter.
“You know that because of diplomatic complications, we could not play in the World Cup. If those issues had been discussed and settled earlier, our team might have participated.” He revealed.
Past scheduling and tour disagreements between BCB and BCCI
In the past scheduling, both sides were expected to meet each other in July last year, but the tour didn’t get a green signal. The BCCI and BCB mutually agreed to defer the white-ball series, three ODIs, and the three T20Is in September 2026.

The decision has been reached following the discussions between the two boards, taking into account the international cricket commitments and the scheduling convenience of both sides. Revised dates and fixtures for the trip will be announced in due course.
Previous tensions and how it impacted India-Bangladesh cricket ties
The previous tensions have impacted the India-Bangladesh Cricket ties on several occasions. Due to Bangladesh pulling out of the T20 World Cup 2026, the ICC decided to replace them with Scotland at the eleventh hour, for which the BCB didn’t get the revenue model.
Bangladesh hopes to get in this aspect and start fresh with improved bilateral relations with the BCCI. The BCB looks forward to welcoming India in September 2026 for the anticipated series. The recent tensions have escalated in early 2026, driven by the fallout after their Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s exit.
