Bangladesh won the first Test against Ireland on Friday, November 14, in a commanding way. They achieved an innings and 47-run victory on the second session of day 4 in Sylhet. This win gives Bangladesh a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series.

Ireland started the morning at 86 for 5 and were under pressure from the start. Bangladesh’s bowlers kept control and took two wickets in the first session, dismissing Matthew Humphreys and captain Andrew Balbirnie. Balbirnie tried to fight back, scoring 38 runs off 63 balls, but the visitors continued to struggle.

All-rounder Andy McBrine helped Ireland stay in the game with a strong half-century. He reached 50 runs, taking Ireland to 198 for 7 at lunch. But after the session resumed, Nahid Rana dismissed McBrine for 52 off 106 balls.

Bangladesh Crushes Ireland in Sylhet Test

Ireland tried to fight back through Jordan Neill and Barry McCarthy. They hit well and scored runs quickly, keeping hope alive to avoid an innings defeat. But Hasan Murad, who bowled brilliantly all match, broke the partnership by dismissing Neill for 36 off 53 balls when the score was 252. In the next over, Taijul Islam removed McCarthy for 25, ending Ireland’s resistance as they folded for 254.

Bangladesh’s bowlers shared the wickets. Murad was the star with 4 wickets, Taijul took 3, and Nahid Rana picked 2 important wickets. Ireland could not challenge Bangladesh at any point. From the start, Bangladesh controlled the match and won easily.

There were also personal achievements for Bangladesh. Opener Mahmudul Hasan made a comeback with 171 runs. Captain Nazmul Hossain scored his fourth century. For the first time, Bangladesh’s first four batsmen all scored 80+ runs. Hasan Murad also shone on his debut.
