BCB set to launch new domestic T20 tournament following 2026 T20 World Cup exit

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a short domestic T20 competition called ODOMMO Bangladesh T20 Cup 2026 which will operate during the international tournament window because Bangladesh players need to maintain their match readiness for upcoming competitions.

The ICC denied BCB's request to move Bangladesh's World Cup matches from India which resulted in Scotland replacing Bangladesh. The board established a new system when international cricket stopped because they needed a way to provide top players with competitive options.

The three-team tournament will take place at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur from February 5 to 9 which overlaps with the World Cup schedule. The board named the competition Odommo which means indomitable in Bangla to show their commitment to maintaining the cricketing ecosystem after the organization faced challenges.

The BCB has allocated BDT 2.5 crore for prize money and player participation fees, which shows that the tournament has more value than its ceremonial functions. Officials established match fees and incentives to create competitive balance throughout all matches.

The Impact Player rule will be used to create additional tactical options for teams. The national team players must complete a mandatory fitness camp that started on February 1 in Mirpur.

Bangladesh did not participate in the World Cup which led to public debate and internal discussions but the BCB responded quickly because it wanted to prepare its players for upcoming home matches against Pakistan which will take place in March and May.
