In a shocking move, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named a replacement for the injured spin bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar. Sundar, who was in the India vs. New Zealand 1st ODI in Vadodara, was knocked out of the match as well as the series after delivering 5 overs in the first innings. So, the board named a replacement for the remaining two ODIs against New Zealand.

There were multiple contenders in discussion to fill up the spot left by Sundar. But BCCI selected Ayush Badoni for the spot, which came as a surprise for many cricket fans. The board confirmed the replacement through a social media brief.

"India all-rounder Washington Sundar reported an acute onset discomfort in his left lower rib area while bowling during the first ODI against New Zealand at the BCA Stadium, Vadodara, on Sunday. He will undergo further scans, following which the BCCI Medical Team will seek expert opinion,” the BCCI said in a statement.

Ayush Badoni joined Team India ODI team as replacement of Washington Sundar

"Washington has been ruled out of the remaining two matches of the IDFC First Bank ODI series. The Men’s Selection Committee has named Ayush Badoni as his replacement. Badoni will link up with the squad in Rajkot, the venue for the second ODI."

Who is Ayush Badoni?

Like Washington Sundar, Ayush Badoni is also an all-rounder who plays for the Delhi cricket team in domestic cricket and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for the Indian Premier League (IPL). The right-handed batter has claimed 1681 runs at an average of over 57 in 21 first-class matches for Delhi. In 27 List A matches, Badoni has scored 693 runs, while 1788 in 96 T20s at a strike rate of 137.96.

India’s updated squad for 2nd and 3rd ODIs: Shubman Gill (C), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul (WK), Shreyas Iyer (VC), Ravindra Jadeja, Mohd Siraj, Harshit Rana, Prasidh Krishna, Kuldeep Yadav, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Arshdeep Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel (WK), and Ayush Badoni.
