In an emotional moment for Indian cricket fans, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) uploaded a special tribute video to mark Rohit Sharma's illustrious Test career, celebrating an era that has come to an end. The video, shared on the BCCI's official platforms, chronicles Rohit's journey in the game's purest form, from a bright young debutant to a reliable leader and batsman. The pictures glance back at his legendary batting, leadership, and his legacy in Indian whites.

Rohit Sharma officially announced his retirement from Test cricket on May 7, 2025, via social media. In his message of farewell, he stated with profound gratitude, "It's been an absolute honor to represent my country in whites. Thank you for all the love and support over the years." While his Test career is over, Rohit assured that he would keep playing One-Day Internationals, where he is still a force to be reckoned with.

In reply to his comment, BCCI just wrote, "Thank you, Captain. End of an era in whites," pointing out the massive influence Rohit had on the team and the fans. The cricket fraternity was also abuzz with tributes, acknowledging the legacy of one of contemporary cricket's great batsmen and thinkers.

Rohit Sharma's Test Career: Important Milestones, Records, and Achievements

Rohit made his Test debut in 2013 against the West Indies and scored in the first innings of his first Test match an impressive 177 runs. Over the course of his Test career, Rohit became a reliable member of the top order, and particularly since he has opened the batting since 2019, Rohit has been a quality player for India. In 67 tests, Rohit scored an impressive 4,301 runs, of which 12 were test centuries, averaging 40.57 in test cricket. Rohit's best score in Test cricket is 212, achieved against South Africa, where he opened the batting and played a dominant innings.

Rohit captained India in Test cricket on 24 occasions and led the team to the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Test Championship Final in 2023. Rohit's calm, assertive leadership, ability to captain the team, decision-making, and ability to hold the innings were immeasurable to Team India, although his form had dipped in recent times, making any commitment to play Test cricket and contributions to Test cricket not to be doubted.

In addition to his exploits in the red-ball format, Rohit has the highest individual score of all time in One Day Internationals (264 runs) and has three double centuries in ODIs. Rohit has won the Arjuna Award (2015) and the Khel Ratna (2020) award for his outstanding contributions to Indian cricket.
