Indian cricketer Rinku Singh's father, Khanchand Singh, passed away on Friday, February 27, at the Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida. He was admitted to the hospital, where he was battling with stage 4 liver cancer. He had been under medication and proper medical care ever since he was diagnosed with cancer last year. However, in the past few days, his condition deteriorated.

The news is quite saddening for everyone as the left-handed batter has a great bond with his father. He was his support system throughout his cricketing journey. Speaking about the sorrowful incident, BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla extended his deepest condolences to Rinku and his family.

"The news of Rinku Singh's father's passing is very heartbreaking. He had been ill for a year... He struggled a lot in his life... Rinku is also very upset... This is very sad... I pay my tributes to him," said Rajeev Shukla as quoted by ANI.

Rinku went to visit his father a couple of days back, before the match against Zimbabwe yesterday. He has been battling advanced-stage liver cancer and was in the terminal phase of the illness. He was under ventilator support for the past few days.

"His condition had deteriorated significantly in recent days, following which he had been admitted to the hospital on February 21. He was placed on ventilator support and breathed his last early this morning," said Dr. Sunil Kumar, spokesperson of Yatharth Hospital.

How was Rinku Singh and his father's bond?

Rinku Singh has seen a lot of struggle in his career, even before playing for India. His family struggled financially, but his father never gave up. He always supported his cricket career and hence, was there beside him when Rinku played for India.

Even when he was ill, he attended his son's engagement with Priya Saroj. He was the cricketer's biggest cheerleader, and in his absence, it will not be an easy job for Rinku to handle the pain and grief. Rinku Singh last played for India in the T20 World Cup 2026 match against South Africa. He then returned to meet his family and rejoined the team before the Zimbabwe clash.
