A major blow ahead of the two-match Test series against India starting early next month. One of the prime pacers has been ruled out due to injury, confirmed through social media post.

A major blow for the West Indies ahead of the two-match Test series against India (IND vs WI 2025) starting early next month. Through a social media post, Cricket West Indies confirmed that one of their prime pacers, Shamar Joseph, has been ruled out of the series because of an injury.
Though the nature of the injury is not disclosed by the West Indies cricket governing body. A replacement was also finished. Johann Layne, an uncapped West Indian cricketer, will join the squad in place of Joseph. The pacer's unavailability is considered a major blow for the West Indies, as the 24-year-old has been an instrumental figure in the format after making his Test debut in 2024. He started his Test career with a five-for against Australia in January 2024. So far, in 11 tests and 21 innings, the pacer took 51 test wickets at an average of 21.66.
In a statement CWI said, "Joseph has been ruled out due to an injury and will be re-evaluated ahead of the Bangladesh limited overs series. Johann Layne has replaced Shamar Joseph in the squad for the test series against India."

Johann Layne named as the replacement
Joseph’s injury leaves Jayden Seales and Alzarri Joseph as the bowling spearheads for them against India in the Test series starting next week in Ahmedabad. The replacement, Johann Layne, 22, is yet to receive his test cap. His first-class bowling stats are the reason why CWI chose him as the replacement of Joseph.
