A huge relief for Indian cricket fans as Shreyas Iyer is fit enough to play in the India vs. New Zealand ODI (IND vs. NZ ODI) series. The first match of the series is scheduled to be played on January 11th in Baroda. For the crucial contest, several Indian players have started their preparations while there was suspense around Shreyas Iyer.

BCCI selectors named Iyer in the main squad, but his ability was subjected to the fitness level. As it is reported, the middle-order batter is all clear to be back in action for Team India. He was out of the ground for a significant amount of time because of a serious rib injury he received during the Australia vs. India ODI series. According to reports, Iyer is fit to play in the Indian team.

His rehab has been completed. VVS Laxman, the head of the National Cricket Academy, has informed chief selector Ajit Agarkar via email that Iyer's rehab is fully completed. As the rehab session is successfully completed, Iyer can now leave the NCA's care and join the team.

Shreyas Iyer is ready to play again for team India

After the update, fans are confident to see him in the playing XI for the India vs. New Zealand 1st ODI match. Earlier on Tuesday, Shreyas Iyer played a Vijay Hazare Trophy match and performed brilliantly. His movements throughout the match looked smooth as well. On January 6, 2026, he played an 82-run innings for Mumbai against Himachal Pradesh. During his decisive 82-run innings in Jaipur, the middle-order batter smashed ten boundaries and three over-boundaries.

Iyer showed his all-round batting display by playing those elegant, well-controlled shots. Mumbai went to bat first and registered 299/9. Eventually, they won the match by 7 runs.
