Breaking News: BCCI likely to start IPL 2026 on this date
The official broadcasters, Star Sports, has revealed that the 2026 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is going to begin on this date, which is just a few weeks after the end of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026.

The 2026 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will just three weeks after the conclusion of the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, whose final is underway on March 08 between India and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad as the Mitchell Santner-led side has been eyeing for their very first trophy of the T20 WC, having lost the final to Australia in 2021.
But after the end of the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, the focus and excitement will soon turn to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, which is set to begin on March 28. The event was supposed to begin on March 26, but the elections of various states around the country have pushed the starting date by two days.
Just two hours before the start of the T20 World Cup 2026, the official broadcasters, Star Sports, revealed that the event will be underway in the fourth week of March, as most teams have already started their preparation for the beginning of the tournament, which will progress into its 19th edition of the competition.
IPL 2026 scheduled to begin on March 28
The five-time champions of the IPL, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), finished the previous edition of the event with the wooden spoon under the partial leadership of MS Dhoni and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Dhoni, who is reportedly playing his last season of the league, has started the preparation with Gaikwad, Sarfaraz Khan, Ayush Mhatre, and others.
The Punjab Kings, who finished as the runners-up of the event, losing to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the final, had a preparation camp in Abu Dhabi before the war situation between the United States and Iran. They will love to go a step further under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer in the new season.
Moreover, the other teams have also started to get their camps ready for the IPL 2026. The RCB side will play their home games both at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium and the Shaheed Veer Narayan Stadium in Raipur. The former will also host the opening game of the IPL 2026 on March 28.
